Behold my one year anniversary build! The courthouse has taken nearly 9 months and hundreds of dollars to create! Hope you enjoy!
About this creation
It is very difficult to photograph a huge white hunk of plastic. The details are kinda lost unfortunately because of this. I did not have enough backdrop to clean up the background unfortunately, so don't mind my messy house. :P

The build is inspired by the local Prescott, AZ courthouse and is about 3 1/2 feet long, and nearly 3 feet wide.

I started this build on a whim, and you can tell that I had not really thought about the baseplate configuration, so it's slightly uneven. Oops.

I would estimate it weighs nearly 35lbs. While it is hollow inside, there are a LOT of various colored bricks I use for support that I can't wait to get back! My collection will double once I tear this beast down! LOL

You'll be able to see the Courthouse at Brickworld in Chicago, and the Chandler Mall Show in Arizona the following weekend in June.

While not considered a "SHIP", I still have quite a bit of money and parts invested into this build. I will count how many went into it when I tear it down. I will NOT add up my total bill however, as my wife might kill me! :P

Besides the stairs and railings I would have to say that my favorite part is the horse statue I created. The inspiration comes from the Prescott Courthouse Rough Rider bronze statue, which is considered to be one of the finest horse bronze statues ever created.

Well that was it....9 mths of banging my head into the wall to come up with this! I hope you enjoyed it! Just in case you're curious as to my first build....it can be found here: http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/119396 Boy was I naive! LOL

Well, whatever resource you sunk into this, it was surely worth it, because this is superb. On a side note, I was higly amused reading on your page intro about being bitten by the lego bug while trying to get your son interested, while he became minifig centered. I hear you.

Great Job!! I love all of the details. Everything works so well together. I would have loved to see it in person at Brickworld, but unfortuantely I had to cancel my plans to attend this summer. My granddaughter is graduating the same weekend.
That's such a shame Rita, I would have really liked to have met you in person!! However, graduation is a big deal, and well worth skipping out on BW for!! LOL
Thank you all for the kind comments! I can't believe I actually made it to the front page, and broke 75 with the "I Like's" Thank you very much!! |

i m hard at work on some city buildings
myself and don t yet intent on having a courthouse, but you make me consider it!
your building would make any city look great!
whatever period!
i agree with others about the plates and figures!
your lamposts really stand out
and the foundations-stairs
makes it look so real!
i think the only way to improve it a little would be;
to have bigger doors-windows
greenery and,garbage,bench,fire-hydrant
finishing touches you surely already have
planned no doubt because
at the level you re at with it,it s art!
it s the most promising building of that sort
i ve seen to date!
i wish i could see that in person,
maybe one day!

A worthy build, to be sure. I've already decided I'm having some fun with my minifigs in front of this baby . . . perhaps a surprise appearance by Blockocop is in order. Good detailing overall (the baseplate issue is a minor one that can be cleared up easily enough at BW if need be). A great job!

What better way than this mastodon to celebrate your one year anniversary! This is incredible... absolutely impressive... I've lately had wild ideas about creating bail scenarios for street skateboarding gone wrong, and trust me, if I had this building and a few more skateboarders, I'd wreck the place (those rails are just what I was thinking for one of my yet-to-be-built scenes)! Nah, just kidding, this is perfection! Peace and Freedom! |

As long as you've already sunk nine months and who knows how much cash into the beast, I think you ought to spend just a bit more of each to get that baseplate situation cleaned up for when it's on display. It will be worth it. Other than that, I hope you have some minifig hijinx going on when it's on display too, these pics look a bit empty. Maybe you didn't want to distract from the building in any way -- I can understand that, you really knocked it out of the park with this one. Awesome stuff. Good luck transporting it!
Thanks Shannon. You are correct about the mini-figs. I didn't want it to take away from the building. I actually ordered green plates to clean up the foundation, and when the parts arrived I found out I accidentally ordered dark green!! >< D'OH!!! I built a gazebo as well that just doesn't seem to go with the build. I'm sure I will be tweaking the grounds a bit before I get to BW. |

Happy Anniversary! Amazing build! Is this the squirrel you are talking about? To add to the ShannY suggestion, you should have them loony minifigs rallying against S.B. 1070 in front of the courthouse and have Phippy disperse them! Then stubborn ones who wouldn't leave are chased by Leda Kat with double chainsaws! Master Shifu can drive the deportation bus at no charge! If that doesn't work, have Bones scare the bejeezus out of them! Yeah! |
