One big, bad, good guy of a robot. Longarm is my 5th Lego Transformer, and he really transforms! He is based on the tow truck from the 2007 movie Transformers.
About this creation

Longarm is the tow truck from the 2007 movie Transformers. Only his vehicle mode is shown in the movie. The toy was released after the movie.

Notice the license plate. It's from a model of a 1964 Ford Fairlane I built around 2002.

Even in my Transformers toy-buying phase, I never wanted Longarm. His robot mode just looked wrong. When I wanted to build a new Transformer, he was one of my choices, for that reason. I wanted to make him look decent.

I wanted Longarm's vehicle mode to be as realistic as possible.

I had two license plate decals, but I ruined one. I had to switch it from front to back during shooting.

Ready for robot mode? So am I. Ready, that is, if I have 15 minutes to spare. Transforming this beast is a laborious task.

Longarm is an incredibly stocky robot. I followed the toy's lead, and had his hood turn into his legs, his rear section into his arms. It's opposite my usual method, and it led to his upper body being extremely bulky.

My main goal with Longarm was to closer realize the "movie look." I wanted crisscrossing body armor, with a gray protoform skeleton underneath. I'm quite pleased with the result.

I wanted to show off why Longarm is my most stable Transformer. Usually, the knees are such a weak joint, they make standing difficult. To eliminate this, I found a way to squeeze two 1x4 poles in, so they could rotate down and support the body's weight on the legs instead of the knees. Yes! He can stand!

One last pic.

Bonus footage: Undercarriage, and vehicle cab with minifig.

I owe all the thanks her to my wife. Anyone who's read my posts knows she takes my pictures, and there's usually some crazy story to go along. This time, we had three sick children. Additionally, my wife was coming down with a fever. Nevertheless, she insisted on taking the pictures. She knew I'd been looking forward to today for 3 weeks. So, thank you, sweetie. I'll make it up to you, somehow.

I don't like the Michael Bay movie-style 'formers. That being said, your truck and robot are both awesome. I like the truck mode more, but both modes rock. Awesome build!

Quoting Bailey Paradine If you were to make instructions to transform him, how many steps would there be?
I could probably boil it down to 8 or 10 multi-movement steps, like I did with Autobot Fracture.

Dude, I still cannot figure out how this awesome guy transforms. If you were to make instructions to transform him, how many steps would there be?

No, I was just thinking about the movie and the Transformer toy. I did read about the drone on Wikipedia at some point, though.

Wooooow... I thought firas was the first to make a transformer that actually transformed... but I was wrong! I cannot even imagine the amount of thought it would take to pull this off. I am beyond words... So I'll make one up. Amaztastic. and you have made so many of them... great work, especially for the size!

He looks solid.. and then he's a robot!! :) That's really good, it's hard to make a solid-looking veichle that transforms into a realistic robot, and one question... how do you put so much detail into a sleek, solid looking car????

Very nice work! Your transformers all look great! I've been wanting to build one for a while now (my own design, not from the series) but all I've managed to complete was the head. Great job, I'm looking forward to seeing more of these! Peace ~ Packie

Quoting Alex Mac How strong/sturdy is he in vehicle mode? And the same for his robot mode.
Alex, I thought I replied to this. I've been having internet trouble lately - that may explain it. Longarm's very sturdy, relative to my other Transformers. He stands up good, and his vehicle mode is not prone to falling apart. The little parts do fall off a lot - I use a lot of jumpers and one-stud connections to make the transformations happen, and those ball-and-joint hinges allow a lot of movement, so those hurt the stability as well. Longarm was a huge improvement in overall strength compared to Fracture, who is very difficult to pose.

Probably one of my favorite transformers of yours, next to Fracture. As always, it looks fantastic in both modes. How strong/sturdy is he in vehicle mode? And the same for his robot mode. Fantastic job! It's always a pleasure to see your transformable transformers!

Quoting Heath 'kik36' Flor Can't say I recognize him from the movie...
You won't see robot mode in the movie, just the tow truck. Actually, I'm not sure he was ever meant to be a Transformer in the movie. Because, if he's an Autobot, why is he just sitting there while Ironhide and Bumblebee are getting shot at? However, he came out at a toy after the movie. That's what I konw for sure.

Quoting Chris Pitter Super Cool! I love how the vehicle mode totally disappears into the transformer.
Yes! That's one cool/weird thing that happened this time. Usually, I try to retain some of the vehicle's features in robot mode, but this time they all faded out, leaving behind pure robot awesomeness!
