Battlestar Mercury
UPDATE 2/16/2011, Phase II added. This is my version of the Battlestar Mercury from the show Battlestar Galactica. While she is in the same class as the Battlestar Pegasus, she was built much earlier following the end of the first cylon war. She was built in complete secrecy as a massive overahaul to the aging Galactica class battlestars to be used as a test platform for prototype and future technologies. It took Colonial contruction crews almost 6 years to build her due to her massive size and cutting edge technologies. These technologies would later be refined and installed on future battlestars. She was kept under the name Colonial BS-X, and it wasn't until after the Pegasus and Pacifica were built that the existance of Colonial BS-X was made public. She would bear the name Mercury and the battlestars were therefore defined as Mercury Class.
About this creation

The overview of the Mercury. She resembles the Pegasus but still maintains various looks from the Galactica.

Phase I

The original build.

The front view. Her pods are still single deck but they have been enhance to provide more support for landing aircraft.

Her engines are similar to the Galactica but are much larger and have armor on the exhausts to protect them from aft attack.

Her flight pods are substantially larger,do not have to retract, and have been fitted with a massive quad cannon gun for enhanced firepower over the traditional fixed gun batteries.

The new technology experimented with was a retractable second bay on each pod to allow faster landing of more craft. This would later give way to the dual pod design of the Pegasus.

Another feature was the ship was deigned to be a multipurpose vessel as opposed to just a warship as the previous battlestars had been.

She had a massive storage bay that housed a crane that could make the Mercury into a mobile shipyard for other ships or for a self-repairing ability.

She also was fitted with concealable rotating cannons. This would later give way to the retractable Armaggeddon Cannons on the Pegasus.

Phase II

Her backside has remained the same.

She now has hidden nuke launchers on both sides.

The head now has recesses for gun batteries as well as maintainence. Plus a surprise on top.

The biggest change is she now has two dockable ships that can be used for planetary landing or defense.
