History 101 with Mister Bones: Episode 3: Rome
All right, sit down and be quiet! Put away your I-Pods, MP3’s, cell phones, DS players, PSP’s and 40 ounce’s. It’s time for History 101 with Mister Bones! Today the learned professor will be teaching us all about Ancient Rome! Well, not everything, actually, just a bit about their history, but you get the idea. Let’s join him, shall we?
About this creation

From behind the door, Mister Bones muttering “I better not get my ass bit, or my leg stolen, or lose one damn body part in this episode.”

Mister Bones: “Here we are folks, Rome! We are in a small courtyard somewhere on the outskirts of the city of Rome.”

Mister Bones: “Rome was founded in 753 BCE, but the earliest records of human habitation date back to 1500 BCE during the bronze age. As a matter of fact, the actual date of the founding of the city is April 21, 753 BCE, so Happy Birthday Rome!”

Mister Bones: “Rome broke away from Etruscan monarchy and began their long history of being a Republic in 510-509 BCE when they overthrew the Etruscan king Lucius Tarquinius Superbus. Nice name, think I will call myself Mister Bones Stupendous!”

Mister Bones: “What’s that you ask? Gladiators? Well, yes, there were gladiators in Rome; I was going to get to that you impatient bums. You people are all about violence and mayhem, I was going to tell you about love in ancient Rome, Lee Jones style, but if you want to talk about sweaty gladiators, I guess we can.”
Mister Bones: “Gladiators could be both professional and amateur fighters whose sole purpose was to do battle in an arena in order to entertain the masses. The first gladiatorial contest took place in 264 BCE as part of a funeral ritual, following which, they needed another funeral. Gladiators must not have been the brightest fellows, I mean fighting wild animals and other big ugly men?”

Mister Bones: “I mean these guys must have been really stupi…..WHAT THE HELL?!?!”

Mister Bones: “That’s it! No more Mister Nice Bone!”

CLANG! SMASH! CLANG-CLANG! (Wow, sound effects in ancient Rome really sucked)

Mister Bones “Take that you filthy wanna be Raider fans!”

Sergeant: “Halt! You are under arrest for murder!”
Mister Bones: “Aw crap, well, I can take these bums too, um…aw poo, four to one…..RUN!!!”

Mister Bones: “I HATE THIS SHOW! BACK TO THE TIME MACHINE! HURRY!”

Sig Booner: “Oh, folks, for more information on Rome and its rich history, see the link below. See you all next time when we will travel back to the Middle Ages and see what idiocy I have planned for Bones there, good night.”

Dem Notes: Roman history is indeed fascinating, we at Dem Bones urge you to peruse the following site: UNRV . Please join us next time when Mister Bones will travel back to the Dark Ages!

Middle Ages should feature paladins from Charlemagne's court, along with some siege weapons. Speaking of which, it would be hilarious if Mr Bones accidently became the ammo for a trebuchet!

@ Bones: Robin Hood? Probably not. I'm from Derby and I work in Nottingham. Derby County Vs. Nottingham Forest is an old, fierce local football rivalry, so you can imagine the stick I get daily. This is not helped when I point out that their local hero was an unwashed homeless thief. Plus Hollywood's track record with Robin of Loxley is a bit patchy - Kevin Costner with a mullet? Although Alan Rickman as the Sheriff was great. I'll keep an eye out for if Robin turns up in your middle ages 101!

Quoting Hans Dendauw I'm with Chris, 'Lee Jone's style' isn't 'Lee Jone's style' without sweaty Gladiators. If you think THAT can't be shown on tv, I'm sure that Bones jousting would give the FCC a coronary!(think about it...)LMAO! Well, I'm off to watch some Jersey Shore and see if I can't erase some of what I was forced to learn here. It's like being stuck on PBS and I can't change the channel!~H

Quoting Dennis Price Love, Lee Jones Style -- now that's a program they couldn't put on TV. Great episode. Mr. Bones sure knows how to blend in with the crowd . . . if it's a murderous mob.

While typing this comment, there was an ad to the right of the type box, and it said, after a few scenes of the video game it was supporting, "Stop, or else go blind." It looked like the video game was from rome too. I think you might want to check the time machine, Dr. Jones might have been making a few visits. Anyway, great moc, hilarious too. ~Waff

HA HA HA HA HA! Excellent! I love all the parts to it, and the Roman Statue is good, too. The most informative part would have to be when Bones explained how Romans fought in collessiums (or however you spell it, my mouse doesn't want to find spell-check) as both amateurs and pros. ~Ryan

How about a bit more then? Here you are good Sir Danielson: The famous coliseum in Rome began construction under Vespasian around 72 CE/AD, Titus (his son) was emperor when it was completed in 80 CE/AD. Interestingly enough, the name coliseum came from the statue of Nero that was nearby (120 ft high), yet Vespasian had the coliseum built to erase the memory of Nero’s rather extravagant and decadent rule. As for which emperor tossed in crowd members, no idea, but Commodus used to like staging fights between dwarves and women…now there is a sport we can all get behind!
