my 5 feet in length articulated cobra like snake creation.
About this creation

The Nagrath is a very terrifying yet unique gigantic snake rahi which measures around 50 feet in length. It has a tough metallic greenish gold snake skin, bright round red eyes and a unique purple fangs that inject poison which dissolves the inside of its prey. Despite its size, the Nagrath is able to slither and move at lightning quick speed which makes it among the most deadly predator. Like a cobra, it can quickly lunge and bite or coil around its prey and applying tremendous deadly pressure. In addition, it can also use its tail to slice and attack. The Nagrath is so rare and terrifying that it has somewhat attained like a mythical status.
Creator's Comment:
Recently, one of my employees showed me a 5 feet snake he caught. This eventually got me thinking if it was possible to make a cool snake made up of purely bionicle parts. I did some research and studied the different kinds of snakes, how they looked and how they moved and posed.
I built first the head of the Nagrath. I made it to look really like a snake with the cobra as my guide. However, as I wanted to make it special and unique, I intentionally used a striking color(red/orange) for its fangs and a unique white/red as its nose. As cobra have this neck wing with a black marks, I also gave the Nagrath a neck wing design with two distict black triangular marks on and below its head. To make it more cool I made the Nagrath with the ability to open and close its mouth like a snake and a unique black movable tongue.
Next, I particularly picked the skopio threads as the Nagrath's upper body scales because of its multiple parts. To improve strength and to give it articulation, I used a flexible but tough GI wire embeded inside a black urethane tubing. At the very ends of the black urethane tubing I added technic pins which fit properly. This "skeleton" is attach from neck and runs in the middle of the body and up to the tail of the snake. Lastly to hold this "flexible skeleton" multiple connectors lock it between the skopio thread. This unique design style not only gave me a beautiful snake body but also a stronger yet poseable body.
All in all, I'm pretty satisfied with this ground breaking design and how it stand out from the rest of my creations.
Here are some more pictures of the Nagrath without color:

Pretty impressive. I like how you designed the head, although I would have made it a bit smaller and more compact, though I probably wouldn't have been able to make this at all. |

look at the pic fourth from the bottom. it doesn't close properly, does it?
It will close if I just remove its tongue which unfortunately cannot retract. The upper fangs goes outward when the mouth is closed. |

Very unique. I built a snake out of Bionicle once, but then it turned into a dragon, which turned into a Titan, which turned into a pile of broken pieces. Anyway, nice job. But stop saying unique, please. |

Beautiful. I might venture to say that the head is a bit large for the body, but still a fantastic build. Love the pose-ability that is attained with the internal skeleton. You've got great MOC's here! |

This is a very cool design. I'm not a fan of the colored pics, preferring the actual colors the snake had with the pieces. I really like the realistic movements of the snake too. Great last pic and nice maltese. -Dylan
Thanks. The photoshop is for what I envisioned this monster would look like and not necessary my complete liking as the original uncolored looks very cool already. Oh the dog is not a maltese but a puppy bichon frise. I had to cut most of her face and head hair after a sticky fly paper stuck to his face recently. hehe

I say pooh pooh on purism because all that purism does is detract from the future of LEGO design and it also kills some potentially cool future LEGO designs, too. With that being said, I hope that LEGO will actually see something like this and make an actual set of LEGO that has a similar apparatus in it, too. Keep up the good work, Harvey. |
