This is my take on the German WWII fighter/bomber, the Messersmitt BF-110, seen here in night fighter colours
About this creation
The Messerschmitt Bf 110 was an aircraft of very mixed fortunes. Despite its failure during the Battle of Britain, it had many other successes in other fields, which have been have been largely ignored. However, this aircraft that did not match up to Luftwaffe expectations, did manage to serve Germany throughout the Second World War in long-range escort fighter, fighter-bomber, reconnaissance, ground attack and night fighter roles.
Why did I build it?
Originally, I wanted to build a Mosquito, but halfway through, I decided that the black paint scheme and the shape I had then was so reminiscent of the Bf-110, and so unlike a Mozzie that I scrapped plan A and built this instead.
Here is a picture of the Bf-110 displaying all its weaponry - four rockets, two 50 pound bombs, and a 100 pound bomb. The rocket racks are as accurate as possible. Please note also the clamps for the two 50 pound bombs (though you may have to zoom in to see them)
The plane has a landing light which is entirely retractable. This picture also allows a full front-on view of the plane, displaying the aerodynamic smoothness of the engine nacelles.
The gear and landing lights retract entirely. Seen from below with gear and light retracted...
And here extended. Although it isn't visible in the shots here, the gear is pretty much flush with the bottom of the engine nacelle, with only the barest hint of tyre showing.
A cockpit shot. The plane was intended to be minifig scale, though to fit them in, I may have to redesign the cockpit a little. Note defensive machine guns at the rear.
Armed up, ready to go.
This is my first Moc, so please rate and comment!
I have succeded in fitting both pilot and gunner to the plane! I just needed to boost both of them with a 2x2 flat piece. It is a bit of a squeeze, though.
Really good! I like this plane alot, nice job on the retractable landing gear but I really like the wepons. Hope you take this as a complement but I might want to barrow your bomb design for my MOCs in the future, it's much better than the one I have. Great Job!
