AVC-9TM Avalanche
The Advanced Vehicular Concept-9 Tank Mech Avalanche was originally inspired by Gundam's Gun-Tank with some notable improvements. Among these changes is the use of a two-man crew composed of a driver and pilot/gunner. This is because the upper torso/turret can separate and become an airborn assault craft while the tank can still launch a high speed ground attack. Because of its versatility, it can serve in a variety of combat roles including front-line combat against other mechs and tanks, anti-aircfart support, infantry support, and even crowd control when necessary. Builder's notes: This tank-mech was built back in the summer of 2009. The tank treads are fully functionable since I tested it by sending it flying across the floor with a good healthy push! Sadly the Avalanche is no more because I finally used to create my SF-97 Flamberge star fighter (which is still on my shelf).
About this creation

An unofficial off-center action pose (I unintentionally got part of my back yard in shot but I decided to keep it anyway).

Frontal shot.

The right side showing the 6-barrel rotating auto cannon.

Rear shot.

The left side showing the 4-barrel rotating heavy cannon surrounding the Thermal Lance. This energy based melee weapon functions ilke any other beam saber but it extends out about 20 feet and is primarily used the same way a medieval knight weilded a lance during a joust.

Here we see the gunner/pilot known only as Shadow Wolf with his canopy raised.

While here is the tank driver Draxus Trocanin with his canopy open. Note the entire canopy flips forward so as to minimize any weak points that an enemy might try to exploit.

Here the magnetic clamps are still activated holdiing both sections together.

Now the clamps have been disengaged.

Separation is now complete, allowing Shadow Wolf to begin his aerial attack.

This scene shows the engine hatch open with the reactor controls in their storage position.

Built into the hatch is a hidden compartment for storing tools necesary for in field repairs. The reactor controls are also flipped down so a calibration test can be done.

The tank body has a pair or mini turret mounted small lasers for use againgst infantry.

The armor plating can be removed to allow access to the track assembly when necessary.

This frontal shot of the tank alone shows the 5-tube RPG launcher above the cockpit along with the 4 machine guns and ultra-beam headlights below. The lights can generate pulses of 20 million candle watts that will blind anyone who looks at them for more that a couple of seconds, making them perfect for crowd control.

This shot shows the underside of the detatchable turret. There is a lift-thruster on each side along with a set of orange power cables and silver coolant hoses for each main gun.

A shot of the turret when in aerial mode. It may not fly like a supersonic jet, but its more than capable of raining death with both main guns and a pair of medium caliber lasers down upon any unfortunate victim that falls under its crosshairs. A closer look also reveals the antenna array located behind the cockpit.

Trying to ambush this beast from above while still connected isn't going to work either since the Avalanche also functions as a highly effective aircraft slayer too.

Draxus and Shadow Wolf pose for the money shot! If the need arises, they can get out of their mech and grab their gear which includes a set of light weight battle armor, pistols, and survival backpacks.

Quoting Master Shifu Leo J I definitely like the idea of having a pilot and gunner in their own cockpits. The mech looks aggressive and means business!
It is and it does! Plus it would be kind of difficult for the top half to fly off and attack enemy forces if the gunner/pilot was left behind!

Ah, another satisfied customer! Older mocs might not get the attention we desire at first but as we build our reputations over time they may get the recognition they deserve. The only real problem is that there are so many people here is that can be really hard to stand out from the crowd. Don't despair, just keep building and try different ideas. You never know what people will like.

Quoting Toni Legomaniac wow and woow. excellent work. Some combination of Exo force and Space Mars. Nice colours, weapons and everything :-)
I'm glad you like it. The funny thing is that I don't own any Exo-Force sets at all! That line came and went while I was busy earning my degree so I could get a better paying job and actually afford to buy LEGO (and pay bills) once again!

Quoting Fredrick Givens another great build. great color scheme. i generally jus like the overall flow of it
Well big mechs with big guns tend to go over well. Now it just needs some lego babes to top it off. Your right about the overall design though. I still have this one displayed on my shelf. Someday I'll turn it into something new, but not yet.

Quoting Marcus Forsberg Talk about big guns... The Mars Mission colours work perfectly in this one. An overall menacing shape and I like the functions you've put into it.
Well maybe the builder was trying to compensate for something! Naaaaahh, I just went with the old adage "the bigger the gun, the more bang for the buck." Besides, everybody loves big guns, don't they?

Quoting Jason Dominguez Pretty sweet build here. It does look like the GunTank, but it also feels remniscent of the Hybrid Rescue Tank, especially with the turret becoming an aerial vehicle.
Thanks for the nod of approval. The funny thing is that I never owned any of the Exo-Force sets so I didn't realize they already had a tank with that ability.

Quoting Hank Hansen why does it have a portal gun?
I'm glad you like it but what do you mean by a "portal gun?" Can you be a bit more specific? I know I need to label the pictures again but since this was an older one I made and posted last year I just thought everyone would remember the original info.

Quoting Berial . Great, this was one of my favorite among your creations.I'm glad you'r back!
Thanks for the vote of confidence! The reason why this one survived was that I still have the original pictures on my camera. Not only that, the Avalanche is still in my Hall of Fame bookshelf. Eventhough I desperately need the parts for new designs, I just can't bring myself to tear this one down. At least not yet.

Thank you very much. At first I considered making it a walker but due to its weight and stability issues it worked out better using this design.
