Team “Legion Of Virile Energetic Moccers Unified For Frivolous Ingenious Naughtiness” entry for the 2010 MocAthalon in the Amalgam Category.
For my Amalgamation, I chose to fuse “Atlantis” and “Cyborg Racers!”
Welcome back Ladies and Gentlefish to the 387th annual Bimini 500! Fans from both Atlantis and the surface have traveled hundreds of fathoms to be here to witness the world’s best undersea cyborg racers go head to head.
We’re in the final lap here and it looks like the underdog “Octopus's Garden” has taken over the early favorite “Fins” in the last turn!
It’s going to be a close one! “Fins” still has a chance if he can slip past “Octopus’s Garden” once they get out in the open of the final stretch!
Which team will swim away with the coveted Poseidon Cup? You control the action!
Here’s a few pics of the racers themselves without the background of the racetrack. My two cyborg racers are both named after songs (as per the original cyborg racers rules established by the illustrious Mr. Ocean.) Octopus’s Garden by the Beatles and Fins by Jimmy Buffet.
Fourth Wall Commentary: I wasn’t originally assigned the Amalgam category for the games. As I had finished all of my assigned builds, my team mate Ian asked if I would take it over for him earlier this week. This being a team game, of course I accepted… now… what to blend together for the amalgam? Driving home that night (It’s funny, all my ideas hit when I’m driving home after work…) I was wondering what “older” theme I could incorporate but bring something new with it? DING! And there ya go! Hope you guys enjoyed this. I’d never built an undersea creation before and I think I’m going to revisit the genre again soon. It was a lot of fun!
And that’s it from me in the MocAthalon! I gotta say that this contest was a LOT of fun and I’d like to take a second to say THANK YOU to all the judges! Lee, Dave, Keith and Yuri have really gone all out on this one and have done an excellent job of keeping things running so that I could have my fun. Thank you guys! This game could NOT have happened without you!
Nice idea. I know you probably hear this all the time in real life, but your octopus is swimming backwards. And your cliffs look more like shelves. Also the pics are below your average. Still, it's a 3 from me.

Chris, when you get time, please add this and your other other Atlantis creation in the Devil's Triangle group? Both are great and would help CLASS up the joint.(you know who we are, we could use it!LOL)
Done my friend... although I'm not sure how much I'd class up the joint?

...I'd certainly love to see more underwater mocs from you sir, so get crackin!
Don't you mean "Kraken?" Ok, that was bad even for me! HAHAHA
Oh man, you just won the interwebs with this moc man! What a fun concept, I love it! The racers, the seaweed lane markings it's all there. I hope Fins isn't a sore loser and eats the octopus, lol. I'd certainly love to see more underwater mocs from you sir, so get crackin!

The photography seems a bit off on this one. It looks like your camera is ramping up the ISO to compensate for low light, which is giving these pictures a bit of a grainy look to them. The moc itself is nice, and I love the squid ship to bits - dang clever on that one. The course certainly sets the scene, and adds to the moc. A bit more work on the plants and the cliff would be needed to make that final point, but it is a solid build to be sure. Four (4) points. Lee.
This for some reason reminds me of a spongebob episode(do not ask me why) where this fish in the stands is selling food to the other spectators, when patrick dives into a pan of oil or something. Anyway, it all splashes on all the fish except for the vendor guy and he pulls out a new sign and starts selling fish sticks. It was a pretty weird episode, and this reminded me of it. Great moc though, I would have done something else to the octopus one to make it a little more interesting, but the layout was excellent! ~Waff
