Republic Gunship mods
Republic Gunship mods and clone commando
About this creation
I got this idea early one morning because I never liked that stupid little antenna thing on top of the republic gunship. It was so useless and dumb. So just the other day while watching the clone wars I remembered about how when the gunships take off from the coliseum, there is a little opening in the top where all these missiles cycle through. Well I wasnt able to make the missle dispenser circular like in the movie, but I was able to put them in. Which is a big improvement from that antenna.

Now on to the minifig which I might sometime soon give his own page to. I based him off of the demolitions guy from Star Wars: Republic Commando. I painted him completly free hand (even without a straight-edge which wasnt very smart I admit) and used nail clippers and a file to cut that top part off of the clone troopers helmet. So anyway. After I made the guy, I decided he needed a vehicle. Origionally, I was going to make a single person fighter, but that didnt sound like what a group of four commandos would use. So I decided just to put an addition on to my republic gunship. It ended up looking nice, and hides that empty space in the lower back of the gunship.

All comments are greatly welcome.

The white piece on the bottom can fold down and the clone commando drops out. Sortof like the Helljumpers in Halo.

Thats it open without the commando but with his little "sled."

The commando on his sled. This can then be tilted up so it looks like the first picture. You might be able to see his blue visor in this pic.

Clone Commando with his demolitions backpack. Surprisingly, it actually looks a lot like that in the game. You can faintly see his blue visor. Unfortunatly, I dont have any flash shots of this.

I basically took off all of the top paneling up to the flap for the engine. I then raised all that area one brick higher, making it sloped.I also moved the cannons one stud closer to theship. That seemed more right, and also put less room between the missiles and the cannons.

Yes, the missiles all can come out. :)

Closeup of the missiles. This was the best I could do. I wish I could somehow make them dispense from two spheres like in the movie, but I dont think there is any room for that.

I once made up a mechanism for making the missiles rotate. I remember it involved attaching them to 2x2 round plates and having them geared together. Try to figure that out.
