Ferrari 458 Italia
This is the brand new 2010 Ferrari 458 Italia, designed by Pininfarina to replace the Ferrari F430. Designed with formula one in mind, including input from formula racer Michael Schumacher, this mid-engine V8 car can reach a top speed over 300 km/hour (202 mph). This car intrigued me greatly, the strong slanting, curving lines on the sides proved to be an exciting challenge to reproduce in Lego. Please take a look and let me know what you think!
About this creation
First I put together some comparison shots with the real car. These pictures were quite helpful in designing the model

Some shots of the side: The side was one of the more difficult aspects of the car to reproduce; so many slopes and slanting curves!

Some shots of the front: the large front air intake has two wing-like blades running across either side. I had a difficult time deciding how make them, and I ended up using two black poles clipped to the front with some connector pieces. I'm still not too happy with it, but I'm open to suggestions!

a first glimpse of the engine!

The back of the car: Another one of the more difficult parts to build. It would have been much easier were it not for those three exhaust pipes. I started the back an odd number of studs wide to keep the exhaust pipes centered, but as I continued building, it stayed an odd number wide, so I was left with the task of filling in the half-stud gaps on either side of the back. I connected some flat red plates to fill the gap, but they're not quite the right thickness, however, it's probably as good as it I could get.

Some shots of the doors, which open and close. These were tricky; the side of the car is mostly designed with studs facing out, while the rest is designed with studs facing up, so it was a challenge to make sure the doors lined up with the sides of the car.

The interior of the car revealed: The dashboard of the 458 was designed with input from Ferrari driver Michael Schumacher to incorporate more on the steering wheel than on the dashboard itself, like in the formula one race cars.

All opened up!

The powerful, 560 HP V8 engine mounted in the mid/rear section of the car:

I designed the model to easily modify into a convertible to create the Ferrari 458 Italia Spyder; the two roof options are shown below. No, the hard top doesn't retract into the back (I wish!) but it is an easy modification to make either car, and takes only couple seconds to change

The Ferrari 458 Italia Spyder:

The seats: Of course, I only had two of the prancing horse stickers on black, which would have been fine until I realized that one had to go to the front air intake, leaving only one for the driver's seat.

The back/side air intakes looked much better on the Spyder model, so I included this close up picture here to show them:

The seats removed:

The engine removed:

Everything removed: Seats, engine and both roof options shown by the empty car

I only have one of those old Lego Technic people, and of course instead of a race car driver he had to be a somewhat angry looking, possibly half robot guy, but he's a pretty good scale for any 14 or 16 wide car, so I included some pictures with him:

Thanks for looking! Please feel free to leave any comments or suggestions you may have

Quoting Lego Lover Hi, I know this is a really ridiculous request, but I was wondering if you could teach me how to make this so that I can order a custom one from the lego website? Or if it's possible that I could buy this from you. I want to give it to my boyfriend for our anniversary.
Hey, I'm glad you like it, but unfortunately it isn't assembled anymore and I don't make instructions for my cars, so I can't help you, I'm sorry. Happy building!

Oh and may I add 1 more thing? Perhaps a "scuderia" or "challenge" version of this car would be a good idea. I haven't seen any others, so if you made one it would definetly be great

Quoting Justin Case how did you make the roof go into the bottom and curve like that?
If you look at the picture where the roof is removed, you can see how the roof attaches in several pieces to the body of the car to create the curve

Very good job on this one! For the exausts: Maybe use a technic brick off 4 studs wide, it's got 3 holes for the exaustpipes. Another option: Use 1 brick off 1x2 with one hole in the midle. On the sides a brick off 1x1 with a hole. Then they are a bit appart from eachother and still in the midle!
