Entry from Praeclari Miles for category "Superman's Interplanetary Zoo" in the 2010 MOC Athalon.
About this creation
Planet Equidalia is known for its incredibly short day/night cycle. Most of the animals adapt by having equally short grazing/sleep cycles. However, one animal, known as the Lightmare, migrates with the planet's night.

No one is really sure why Lightmare race the sunrise to the point of exhaustion. It is said they retire to caves deep in the planet during the day, where they restore their energy on mushrooms.

Lightmare spend their entire lives in almost complete darkness. The headdress signifies a male's health: they are born with three color nodes and gain more as they age, up to nine. The most desirable males will have nodes with distinctly different colors of the visible spectrum. Females will have anywhere from one to five white light nodes.

This MOC has been featured on The Living Brick.

Beautiful! This is a sort of build you don't see alot on the pages. I love how the black color makes it look almost like a silhouette. Very nicely done.

Piers Anthony has a series of books about a magic land where puns come to life in magical ways. One such incarnation were the Night Mares, black horses that brought bad dreams at night; multi-colored Day Mares brought daydreams. One of the Night Mares left the ranks, becoming the Black Day Mare. This is an absolutely beautiful creation that instantly made me think of that particular book, one of my childhood favorites. Great usage of parts to capture the smooth lines of a horse.~H

There you go, they eat cave 'shrooms. No wonder they're insane.

Nice work here! The legs are a little spindly, but it is a fantasy horse, so I think it's exceptable. Good luck with the judges! &^D
