My version of the Star Wars Droid Control Ship. 30000pieces and two years to build it.
About this creation
Some years ago I walked into a second hand book shop and I bought a Star Wars Cross sections book. In the center stood the Droid Control Ship. It blew my mind and I knew I had to build it.

Looking for more pictures of the back -engines - of the ship, I soon found out that someone had done it earlier than I. Thomas Benedict -master builder -made a work of art of his Droid Control Ship. He was my inspiration an motivation. I wish to thank the greatest builder for his "help". Thanks a lot Thomas and keep building your super creations.

I used almost 30000 parts. Lots in the center globe that I build with the aid of a building program that I found on the web. 3500 tiles to cover the outside structure. Lots of Technic parts to make the inside frame, so I could move, lift and take it apart without breaking it. The technic parts are joined left/ right and top / bottom, resulting in a firm and solid almost selfcarrying structure.

I made four separate parts. The center globe, a left and a right wing and a center back part with engines. Failing to find more detailed pictures I gave my own twist to the engine part.

As I had been collecting and saving all old gray parts since years it was obvious that I would build this ship in these colours.

It took almost 2 years to build it. I'll try to get to you sooner as I'm working on some interesting projects.

Quoting Krištof Puèejdl I have spent alot of time above these pictures. Finally, I can say without hesitation that this is the best LEGO Lucrehulk class I have ever seen. You beat (epic) one from Thomas Benedikt with detail accuracy. DO you think you could guess how many pieces from total 30k are tiles to cover the hull? I'm very tempted to build my own version in this scale because it's matching perfectly with my MIDI-Scale Venator and Invisible hand. Anyway, really amazing job. This is perhaps the most challenging Star Wars ship to build any you did excellent!
Thanks for your kind words. The dorsal side is covered with about 950 tiles. The ventral side (underside) is not covered with tiles.

Quoting daeyong kwon Is there any way of buying its instruction. How about selling its instruction on website like as Rebrickable. I really want to have your creation. It's certainly the most lovable.
Back in the days I never made any digital instruction for my creations. So there is no instruction for this one. And even if I had made one it would be just to big for lets say a LDD program, to generate a useable building instruction for a 30000piece project. I'll post some digital projects in the near future . Just finding time is the problem. Anyhow, thanks for the comment

Quoting Jim Wright Beautiful.Dude, the only thing about these big MOCs is that you just cant take em apart. Be4 I had this account, i built a 3 ft. model of the Republic Cruiser. I then needed the peices for another project, and it was so hard to destroy. Is this still together, or have you taken it apart?
I haven't taken it apart and I never will. I've build this one in 4 large parts, that you can even carry around. Recently I've rebuilded the center back (with engines) and I've integrated a carrying device. You can lift one of the towers, put your fingers under "the bridge" and lift it and carry it. I'm quiet satisfied of the result. The ship looks like before but inside it's completely different. I'll try and find some time to make a kind of construction journal somewhere september...and make some pictures of it.

Quoting rob messenger hey, this is an incredible construction. I'm trying to build a millenium falcon and I'd love to know how you achieved the circular frame and tubular shell

I still have it on display, and I won't take it apart. I have got more pieces than time... so I'll be building this winter

Perfect, just perfect. You got every detail perfectly in place, you didn't miss a thing. Since I don't know too much about this ship in the movie, this next sentence will sound like untamed rubbish: I really like the engine-things on the inside-ends of those two curved things...Have fun deciphering that...But I really didn't know how to say it...Anyone who gives this less than a 5 is a fool...

Getting comments from you is magnificent. I got a great deal of inspiration from your ship and with your pictures I had the basic structure. Quoting Tom D Paul please let me know what kind of software did You use for this project. This is life and death matter.
Hi Tom, I'm afraid that you'll be closer to death than life, but... here it comes. The only software I used is to make the center sphere. It's the sphere generator from Bram Lambrecht and the sphere build from symmetric plates by Bruce Lowell. You can find those building instructions on bricklink (sphere with plates and then do some research). You have spheres with studs on top and spheres in advanced building tech. that have the studs in all directions. That's the one I used. The left and right wings of the ship and the center part were made with a whole technic construction, that I created myself, by just building and rebuilding it... So there's no easy and fast way to build this. Hope that this info will get you started.

Quoting Pedro the Puerto Rican Wow. Impressive work indeed!I've been thinking about doing one of these about a year ago, and these are actually one of the good Droid Control Ships on the site! Theirs about 3 of these on the site that are really worth looking at, and Congrats, your 1 of these amazing creations. Keep up the great work! (EDIT: One thing you forgot, how big is it? it looks huge, but if you wouldnt mind, but to reply or edit the page and post the size? thanks.) -<Pedro>-
It's true, as my wife always says, size does not matter....lucky SHE, but in this case it does matter It's 55.11 inch long (140cm) and 39.37 inch (100cm) wide. Thanks
