Why is it so? Why is it that we must harm another being, rather than present them with gifts? Why is it so that we must treat our fellow beings as monsters, thus becoming monsters ourselves? Why is it so that we must kill our fellow beings if they act even less than monsters? It is the way of us and our most destructive manner.
About this creation
Bellum, the Latin word for "war".
A couple of days ago I had this vision, this idea, of a set of MOCs depicting a pre-invasion. The calm before the storm, in other words. The first MOC would depict an invasion force leaving from somewhere in Asia, thousands of years ago. The next would carry the same landscape, but be modernized to the point of the gunpowder age. And instead of great war barges, the invasion force would be that of man-of-wars. The third and possibly final installment would, once again, carry the same landscape and would have yet another naval invasion force, set sometime in the future.
I hope to keep this first installment intact, and simply purchase more blue baseplates so that I continue with the next installments. This was heavily inspired by this man's work. Enjoy.
An overview of the MOC. What does one call this, anyway? Diorama? I doubt it.
Here's another overview, showcasing more of the back. Structures/areas included in this MOC is a monastery, houses, windmill, watermill, and lighthouse/lookout tower.
Looking down the river (or at least, the parts which aren't being blocked by foreground structures). All the small boats are fishing boats; it's the morning fishing fleet setting out. That reminds me, I should've included a marketplace somewhere in this. Dammit! The larger fishing boats were meant to resemble slow boats, or whatever the heck they're called.
The back of the lighthouse, where the entrance is located.
Another lighthouse view, where one can view the small town.
Moving a little closer, we see the watermill that was previously mentioned.
The watermill really spins. You can see here I added little transparent blue studs to imitate water on the mill. Tell me if it looks good or not.
I used 1x1 clear round plates to simulate the foam coming from behind the boats. I think it worked out quite nicely. Maybe I should have used white 1x1s?
The windmill, like the watermill, also spins. This structure is one of the few I was unable to come up with a satisfying design. Still though, it was just something I had to have. I think it looks like some northern European windmill, as opposed to an Asian windmill. Unfortunately, it was quite a while since I last played Age of Empires 2, so my knowledge is far more limited than it normally is on Asian feudal constructs.
The windmill... What's the word? Lumbers? Lingers? "Something" over the fishing village.
The back of the windmill.
I really should have taken a shot of the windmill spinning. Although the MOC still exists, so I might add it later on.
The farms. The structures with the 2x4 roofs seen here are the warehouses. I like the flat surface used in them. The white line shown in the photo above is NOT a hair, it is a scratch on my Legoratory table.
Another view of the farms, this time including a shot of the mud path that leads up to the monastery.
A shot of the "urban" area of the village. This is the one aspect that, no matter how many times, I could never get to look good. I'm still far from happy with it, but hey, what are you gonna do?
Moving towards the "entrance" of the monastery, we see the numerous steps leading up to it.
I'm quite happy with this part. Stairs that lead across the water. Pretty freaking awesome if you ask me.
... And we have reached enlightenment! I have seen the First Stud! The first of studs, the first one created by the god, Liego.
An overview of the monastery apparently devoted to Liego. Hellz yeah! Death to the Miagerbloks believers!
Overlooking the residents of the village are the structures of the monastery. Make up your own story for what lies within them.
And the last "section" of this MOC, the invasion force. If you misunderstood me earlier, this is a force preparing to invade, not a force that just invaded the village. The black 1x1 round studs are somehow meant to symbolize troops. I've come to like the scale:
1 stud = 4 people
A look at the force closer up. If you want to make an Asian short joke, nows the time.
A totally whacked-out, out-of-scale leader on a horse. My reasoning is that since he's on a rock, Liego makes him larger, so as to lend him strength. Yeah, I don't get it either.
Another look at the mighty force.
A look at the bay minus the warships. By the way, the grill tiles next to the two fishing boats here are meant to be nets.
Can you believe this whole thing originated with these three ships? Still though, I have to admit; they are pretty f***ing badass. Just sayin'.
ROOAAARRRRGGGHHHH!!!!! *ahem* To be honest, I'm not very happy with the dragon head on this ship. There's a lot of stuff I'm not happy with in this MOC. Maybe I should just shut the hell up and continue with the photos?
We'll start with the smaller one. Two of these were made.
Moving on, we see the dragon fleet's flagship. The oar holders are of gold on this ship, as opposed to wood on the lesser ships. Also, the oars are partially protected by gold, a.k.a cheese slopes.
The back of the ship. I was unable to find a way so as to sport some sort of leader or commander sitting near the tail. I'm sure if I'd actually been devoted to it, I would have found something. Ah well.
And, as a special bonus, here's a shot of what will be the flagship of the next invasion force, which will be featured in the next installment. Since I've got a one week break off of duties, I might be able to squeeze the installment out later this week, but I highly doubt it.
A lot of your previous experiments seems to lead to this particular MOC, which is one of my fav from you. LOTS of great ideas, and the general ambiance is really uncommon, frightening and interesting. Reminds me some games like "Populous". Great work !!!
