Mantine, a water/flying pokemon from the second gen. This was my entry for the pokemon of the month contest for February.
About this creation
Here's my Mantine for the pokemon of the month club. The two things I don't like are that I didn't include the gills, and the remoraid is kinda boring. I had the gillds planned out, but I couldn't manage to get them on in the end. The remoraid hitching a ride on the wing isn't very detailed, but I did what I could. I had a better model for the little guy, but I ended up switching the studs on the bottom of the wing, so the old model didn't attach any more.
The vig is pretty basic. Just a brickbuilt rock wall, some water plants and a spilling treasure chest. I thought about including some other smaller pokemon, like chinchou or clampearl, but I was tired and didn't know if the judges would have liked that, so I skipped it. I might make a bignette later with maybe two mantines and a few chinchou, since I have some ideas on how to make them.
Something I like about the model is just the way the antennae are positioned. The sprite normally shows them poking out forward (the way I positioned them in the solo pics below) but for the vig, they're being swept back to create an illusion of movement through the water. Let me know if you think it worked.

Great work on this. The antennae being swept back really works to imply movement. The vig is really great. |
