"Hail Friend Computer!"
Praeclarai Miles Mocathalon Entry for It's Just A Game, based on a tabletop RPG. The game? Paranoia. This information is above your security clearance.
About this creation
THE COMPUTER IS YOUR FRIEND!
The Computer is happy. The Computer is crazy.
The Computer will help you become happy. This will drive you crazy.

I will explain here, as briefly as I can: the End Of The World has come, but in an incomplete manner. Somewhere under North America a city, part under a biodome, part underground, exists. Ruling over it with a literal iron fist is Friend Computer, an AI who once ran Alpha Complex in a benevolent manner.

After the unimaginable happened, The Computer attempted to figure out what happened. Having encountered some Cold War era propaganda, Friend Computer came to the conclusion that the End was the fault of Communists. Commie traitors are to be shot on sight.

No-one really knows what happened, partly because it was an unknown time ago, and partly because all information is heavily controlled.

Ironically, Alpha Complex is very close to a Communist state.
Mentioning this will get you scheduled for termination, partly because only a traitor would have doubts about Friend Comp-comp-comp-SYNTAX ERROR: 2341114 LOG SUBMITTED-puter's-p-p-puter's infallibility, and partly because only a Commie Traitor would know about Communist ruling techniques.

Now, the thoroughly insane and very very paranoid Friend Computer runs Alpha Complex as a dystopia, with everyone inside ranked by a draconian system based on a number of 'Security Clearances' based on the electromagnetic spectrum; from lowest to highest:

Infrared (Black), Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet and Ultraviolet (White).

Infrared workers are kept happy with drugs, and may only enter black marked corridors on pain of death; yes, that's how it works. if a RED citizen is caught in a GREEN corridor, he is a traitor and to be shot on sight OR to report himself to the nearest Termination Booth. An Ultraviolet High Programmer, however, the upper caste of Alpha Complex and second in authority only to Friend Computer, can get away with almost anything short of treason. If he shoots a YELLOW for treachery, and the records say the YELLOW did nothing, if there's even the faintest shadow of a doubt, Friend Computer will trust the Programmer's word. The High Programmers also liberally make adjustments to Friend Computer for their own advantage. This contributes to The Computer's insanity.

Of course, only a traitor would even hint that Friend Computer might be unstable.

Everyone in Alpha Complex is a clone, one of a family of six, who replace the original should he die. The current clone has most of the memories of his precedecessor, minus the half hour or so before his death, naturally.
Clones can have more clones made, for a fee, although unless they pay a prohibitively high cost, there's a high chance of malfunctions, ranging from heart trouble to uncontrollable teleportation.

Food is based on algae, although the higher your clearance, the better the food.

If you're a Green, or GASP! even a Blue, you occasionally get food that's not based on algae. Rumours have it that Indigos even get real fruit!

In a normal RPG, the GameMaster tells the players a story, and they act on it.
In Paranoia, the GameMaster actively tries to kill the players in as entertaining a manner as possible, and the players stab each other in the back regularly.

Player characters are Red ranked Troubleshooters.
Their job is to find trouble, and shoot it. Not too tough, is it?

A good game of Paranoia will have deaths and murders during the briefing. A great game of Paranoia will have players on their third clone by the time they even get to the briefing, if they get there at all. An excellent game will have several parties of clones dead before they even get out of the tube station.

Treachery is very common; having green coloured pills in your pocket will get anyone lower than a Green executed. Being a mutant will get you killed.

Unfortunately, thanks to the breeding processes and the cloning, everyone's a mutant.

Secret societies are also treachery. Everyone's (surprise!) a member of a secret society. Simply knowing that secret societies exist can be treason. This makes jobs involving the rooting out of secret societies very difficult to get through alive. Paranoia players tend to be quick with their tongues and even quicker with their lasers.

Admitting treason is also a good way to die. Unfortunately, it's also very easy to be tricked into a confession by a clever Troubleshooter looking to advance in rank.

This MOC is about that sort of thing.

It's also very easy to be executed for treason simply for doing things that we today take for granted. Wearing Goth clothes and drinking Coke? In Alpha Complex, that's Treason. You're clearly an Infrared drinking a Red ranked beverage. Report to your nearest Term-Term-Termination Booth for Term-Terminatio-io-ion.

Of course, there's also a very obstructive bureaucracy and Research and Development, who often issue defective gear that must be tested (and returned intact). Including hand grenades. Trouble, eh? Not testing the gear is treason. Not bringing all the gear back is treason. Lying about how you tested them, and getting caught, is also treason.
Anyway, I've rambled on too much. On to the games!
yeah, that's the brief explanation. Think of it this way: the alternative is a couple hundred pages of illustrated rulebook!

Oh, wait: just a note: happiness is mandatory. Not being happy is punished by death.
Have a nice day!

"Hold, Citizen! Are you a happy Commie?"

"Hmm... No."

"Happiness Is Mandatory! Eat laser, malcontent!"

*FZAM!*

"BLAAIIEEE!!"

"Halt, Citizen Fred-R-ICK3! Are you a happy commie!"

"Eh... Yes, yes I am!"

"Suck this, Mutant Commie Traitor!"

*FZAM*

BLAAHHHRRGGHHH!!

"Citizen! Are you a happy commie!?"

"Unfounded accusations of treachery are treason, citizen! Are you calling me a Commie Traitor without justification or evidence?"

"Um... Hmm... Eh..."

"Die, traitorous Commie!"

*fwoosh*

"AAAIIIEEEE!!"

*FZORCH!*

"Okay... One one hand, I've just killed an Intsec officer. On the other hand, the Liquid Flame Gun works perfectly. I've accomplished my mission."
"IT BURRNSS!!"

"Now, to explain all this to Friend Computer so I don't get terminated..."

"I CAN TASTE THE PAIN!!"

"Okay, how's this: I was walking through this corridor, and this Mutant Commie Traitor came up and tried to kill me. I defended myself, Friend Computer and Alpha Complex valiantly."

"It... *cough*... hurrts..."

"No. That's not good enough. Okay, I was walking along, this man, a Commie Traitor masquerading as an Intsec patrolman, accosted me and accused me of being a traitor even though my whole life has been spent in loyal servitude to Friend Computer. In response to this attack, I killed him to save other loyal servants of The Computer from being tricked into becoming traitors because of his false orders. I'm deeply sorry that Friend Computer's floors have been marked with his blood, remains and ashes, and I will volunteer for Cleanup Duty for a month to make up for it."

*crackle*

*pop*

"Perfect! Sounds true, has just the right touch of penance and grovelling and anxiety to please! I'll just drop this Liquid Flame Gun off at R&D, fill out my forms and report for debriefing!"

*fzzt*

Citizen Fred-R-ICK4 was later executed for destroying Friend Computer's property.
On top of being implicated in an Infrared Market smuggling ring stealing and reallocating Hot Fun(TM) packets and Bouncy Bubble Beverage(TM) cans*, this was sufficient to get him branded a traitor.

Citizens Fred-R-ICK5, Fred-R-ICK6 and Malev-O-LENT7 were executed several months later for smuggling, with Fred-R-ICK6 being killed as punishment because of Fred-R-ICK5's refusal to go to a Termination Booth.

Have a nice day, and remember: The Computer Is Your Friend! Trust The Computer!

*Warning: may** cause sterility, insanity and death, in that order. May** explode if shaken.

From left to right: burning Intsec trooper. Fred-R-ICK. Friend Computer's local terminal. Liquid Fire. Intsec trooper.

If the explanation at the start was too long, I'm sorry, but Paranoia is an RPG that takes a bit of explanation. Otherwise, some people may not 'get' the joke.

(NOTE: RPG is short for Role Playing Game. Try googling it.)

This is a Mocathon entry, in case you can't tell. Category is It's Just A Game. Team is Praeclarai Miles. Contestant is Areetsa. Reader is: really not that clever if this is the first moment he realized these facts.

Have a nice day, and remember to take your pills!

Well, I'm confuzzled. NIce MOC, clever, funny, and no sense at all. Typical Areesta C.

Quoting Keith Goldman Score of 2. Maybe because I played the game back in the day I have a little nostalgia for it. You also captured the spirit of the game, although I wish you'd included a surveilance camera. I don't think it violates the spirit of the rules. The build is clean and the photography is good as usual.
Really? Never really thought you were the type for RPGs. Though in retrospect, it probably explains where you got some of the Iron Reich details from. Camera would've been a good idea, pity I didn't think of it at the time.

This is the kind of thing I dislike the most about judging... having to rate down a good build because it doesn't fit the rules/themes :( Please (you and anyone reading) read carefully before you start building. 0 points. -Sigh!-

Quoting A Member Since December 7, 2007, Jake Parkinson This Is hilarious, You will probably be a comedian someday.
Eh, I dunno. It's just an illustration of a story I got off a forum somewhere.
Quoting Matt The Backward One Lol. I'll never look at you the same way again. 4/5!
Oh? Why's that?

Quoting Dave Kaleta I get it; it's an RPG. But all you did was recreate the action from the game, no the actual game itself. Most RPGs has dice and rule books and so forth. We want to see something we could actually play. Sorry, 0 points for me for not matching the category.
Was that what I was supposed to do? Whoops.

It is a nice build, but it just a generic action scene that could fit several different categories. If it wasn't for you stating it was a game, then there is nothing to tell an observer that it is. Zero (0) points from me. Nice build though, I like the 'burnt' fig. Lee.
