Serving as both aircraft carrier and battleship, Colonial Battlestars are capable of projecting military power deep into enemy territory.
About this creation

Battlestars such as the Galactica are heavily armored to absorb missile impacts, projectile weapons, and are even able to sustain multiple nuclear weapons strikes.

With its own fleet of Vipers and Raptors, Battlestars serve as both an offensive strike force, and a defensive cover for civilian fleets and ground positions.

FTL capable, Battlestars are designed for missions of great duration, with nearly 100% water recycling, and massive storage for food and weapons supplies.

Quoting Achintya Prasad Alright, here we go. Here is a link to the instruction booklet that we are interested in of set 7249: http://cache.lego.com/bigdownloads/buildinginstructions/4273727.pdf The steps you need to look at are 16-17, which deals with the outrigger construction. In a relatively small area, they managed to fit some pretty sizable outriggers. Now, if you managed to recreate this with those technic beams, and have a mechanism of gears and this piece:http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=3743 or another similar piece, you could make a moving mechanism with it.
Very interesting! Never seen that part. Might have to order a few of those and get to work again. Thanks!!

Wait a minute. Why don't you have the arms in a pattern? In an old XXL crane that Lego sold a few years ago, it had outriggers. Those outriggers were arranged in a batter, in a a piece. Let me see if I can find a link.....

Quoting Achintya Prasad I see. Hmm. I might give a few design a shot; just an intruiging problem that could lead to some very cool advancements in this already great design!
My problem was I just couldn't get enough arm inside the hull when the pods were out to anchor them in there. One or two studs wasn't enough to support the weight of the pod. As it is now, the pods do come out, they're not permanently attached to the hull. So in theory, I could simply shorten the arms and take some pictures in "jump" mode. Not a bad idea!

Quoting Achintya Prasad I see. Hmm. How many studs does it need to go in to look realistic? I have a few ideas on possibly accomplishing this, but it all depends on how much it needs to travel inside.
It has to go in just about the same number of studs as the top is wide. And on both sides. So there's the rub. Plus it's very thin at the top. Remember, the pods want to go down, so the arms want to go up through the middle of the hull. My first solution was to make the inside of the arms hollow, and have those long technic lift arms as a cross brace inside them. http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=32278 But the proportions were such that there was no space at the center of the hull. The arms had to meet in the exact middle. Otherwise the top would be too wide, or the pods wouldn't retract all the way. But, who knows. Good luck if you give it a try!

Quoting Achintya Prasad Massive, though what would one expect? Excellent work; are there any plans to have those outer flight pods? (I think that is what they are called) to retract? In fact, on this massive scale, it would be amazing to see it be motorized! (Yeah, my carrier is driving me up that wall). Either way, though, this is really good; and an unimaginable parts count! 5/5
Retractable flight pods was the first thing I worked on with this. Two problems were overall weight of the pods, and too much travel of the arms to be supported by the narrow spine of the hull. Oh well. Thanks for checking it out!

Quoting Christian Collins Yeah, I kinda felt like commenting on this after I got my first BSG creation up. A couple of questions, How long do you think it took you to make this? And how many bricks would you say are in it?
On and off, at least a year. I went through a variety of design changes, so that slowed things down a bit. Parts? 3100 from the UCS Star Destroyer, 3800 from the Death Star II, and quite a bit more after that. Maybe around 8-10K? 24 pounds, so it's plenty solid, for being mostly hollow, that is ;)

Thanks! I don't get the picture deal. I can see it here, but not on the main page. And I can't change it out for a new pic, either. Anyway, 6yr molars, yes, often benefit from sealants. But not every tooth necessarily. Some just don't have the deep pits and grooves, so there's nothing for the plastic to stick to. Or if there's not a lot of room back there, it's a tough procedure to do correctly. Depends on the kid, really. How's that for a vague answer?

Ah, yes the whole pod retraction thing...I spent a few months before I even started to build anything else just working on that aspect. Couldn't do it. Quoting J0N0TR0N1C SYSTEMS Good stuff! I like that you let your studs show. It gives a nice greeble-ish texture given the scale of this MOC.
I had decided that using the smooth tiles for the armor plating and leaving the rest studded was the way to go. If I find an extra $300 kicking around I might put smooth tiles in light gray over the ribs, but I'd still leave the in betweens as they are. Thanks for the comment!

Quoting ivor kreuger Woa, What a sight! , Too bad I don't own that much original lego brick, (or what they are called) I only have technic as you've seen. I guess you know best that building models requires skill thus practice. I could not build what you build in ten years... ... Make it five then. Amazing job!
That makes us even! Thanks for commenting.

Quoting Jonas James Totally awesome dood! You've captured everything that is important in your model. With a brief glance it would be hard to tell between your model and an actual still from the TV show.
Thanks, Chief!

Thank you for the kind words, but it's one of a kind. However, if you get a Star Destroyer and a Death Star, you'll be well on your way!

Quoting andros tempest looking good, but isn't the tail section the wrong shape? I thought there was just one big engine not two smaller ones. bridge section is awesome.
In the old show there was one big one, but in the new show, there are four pods, two big ones on top, two smaller on the bottom, and then two big engines in the middle. If you Google it, you'll eventually see some pictures of the engines. Thanks for your comment!
