Larkford Castle
Just in time...
About this creation

Finished frantically after hearing about and eventually joining the MOCathon, I present my first castle (if you can even call it a that). I'm not entirely satisfied with it, but I would like to have at least part of my bley brick collection available for the contest, so it'll have to do. As always, any thoughts/criticism are more than welcome.

One disappointment concerning this MOC was my lack of workspace. I would have liked to make this about thirty two studs larger on all sides but was forced to keep it like this when I ran out of room. What a let down.

This is a picture of my photography set-up. After looking at my bloody knuckle, feeling my sore ankles, cold feet, and sore back, I figured it deserved a shot.

Okay, when I found this again, I didn't think it was you... Yeah, it's that good! No, I don't think you build badly, even though I just made it sound like I did... I just didn't think you had this much Lego! Okay, sorry for the ramblin's, enjoy your five heads...

Its almost a big grey wall syndrome but you got away with it with the archs in the wall. It doesnt matter about the extra space you didn't have enough space to use it still looks great, especially the gallows 5 :-)

Very good design in a small diorama. I have always liked castle dioramas, but I am focused on SW mocs. Next step, a huge castle. I am sure you will build something excellent.

Splendid work, Jesse! Some refreshing detail as well. The tapered battlements are the bomb, and the softening of the tower corners is sublime. We also like the use of the tiles for the accent stones, giving it some real dimension! We're gonna pick up Garth and drive out there to test that "gallows height" issue (ooops! sorry Garth, were you listening? We Love you man!). Later, Pal!

Haha, good eye. =) Those jumper plates were put there for minifig positioning but were never used. Gives the smooth ground some texture I guess...

i really like the outer wall, it's very well done. the inside looks good too. i would go outside to photograph my mocs, but right now there is several feet of snow on the ground and it's about -30 outside, not the best time for outdoor photography

Thanks guys!
Quoting Heath 'kik36' Flor Do you set up every minifig just for pic taking, or do you have a way to keep them in place when you move the build?
Usually I like to use jumper plates to give the minifig at least one stud of grip, but for this particular MOC I just set 'em there due to the lack of sunny skies and time. =) So this time it was just for the photos.
Quoting Yuri Fassio It may need some windows to break the monoto- wait, who do I think I am? This is wonderful, and way out of my league!
Actually, I think you have a good point there. In my original plans there were plenty of windows, but for some reason they didn't get in...Ah well, there's always room for improvement.

Another great build JD. I especially like the battlements on the three towers. It actually looks safe to work on the tower, unlike most castles I've seen. The interior village is great as well. I like the little hanging platform.

JD, this is REALLY cool. It's very clean and solid, but yet shows an impressive amount of detail. The landscape is a bit plain, but it works for the overall look. I like all of the side scenes you have going on that make this MOC a little more entertaining. Overall, you get an "A" on this one. -Dylan

This is amazing for your first castle. Great small details like, the hanging, the guard trying to stab the mouse, and the creativity with every villager. The smoothness of the flooring gives it a professional look too. Oh, and could you comment on my new Star Wars Hoth battle when you get the time? Thanks.

Nice layout. I think most real castles are pretty small. The king and his family, plus a few of his men etc. If we could see out about the place there'd be a bunch of houses and stables scattered about. I do question the height of the gallows though. That's not much of a drop. Anyway, plenty of nice details and a great look. see ya. garth

I feel your pain on the lack of workspace. Frustrating, isn't it? I've never seen landscaping quite like that, nice way to break up the bare baseplate look with relatively few parts. And the gallows -- very nice touch.
