That was probably my favorite line from Winter Assault. Mostly because it proves General Sturnn is made of awesome. The other Guard Generals in the DoW series just couldn't live up to him. Oh, right! The actual MOC... Well, a Guardsman and an Ork face off in the streets of a ruined city. Someone's gonna die.
About this creation
And now for the less than light-hearted backstory. This IS 40k afterall.
It all began six months ago... At least the Civil War anyways. The local PDF was split down the middle, and we knew we couldn't trust either half as soon as we got there. There'd been fighting in the streets for the past two weeks or so when our platoon got there. It didn't take long to bring order back, mostly because the rebels and loyalists hadn't been able to rally support from the populace yet. As soon as we got everything back under control though, the Orks came. The first Rok dropped in on the planetary capital. It was almost completely obliterated when the thing went off on us. We lost our command battalion and most of our armor, so all the units that had survived holed up where they were. Some tried to link up with other units, but by then the Green Tide had come in. It's been a week since I've had contact with anyone. Anything. However, I've been hearing noises at night. They sound like engines. I think they've found me. If you find this journal, that's what's happened to this place. I'm probably dead by the time you read this, but know that there was resistance. They won't take this place without a fight. Afterall, General Sturnn said our duty was to hold the line and die fighting. Well, it's what we do best. We die standing.
... Aand cut the depression! Now then, that was a little scene I whipped up to try out the bionic arm technique I saw Shadow Viking use for a 40k Ork. I then proceeded to whip up a Guardsman for him to fight. I think it turned out pretty nice, just the right mix of wreckage and flatness. And fire. Fire is always good to spice things up. Also, both characters are Green. And in a city. Then again, you can have Red guardsmen if you choose... Oh well, that's how it is and that's how it's staying. Another interesting note is this is sort of a return to my old style of Storytelling. You'll have to check out some of my older MOCs to understand ;). Thanks for looking folks! Tech Guard, y'say? Interesting proposal. To be honest, I've never considered them, but they do sound interesting. And I'm sure it's not just the Cain series that refers to them as Skitarii. I saw Dan Abnett refer to them as such in Titanicus. |

Thank you, and it's a Brickarms M1 helmet. I'm not sure if they sell them anymore though. A great alternative would be a Brickforge Military Helmet if they don't. |

Well, seeing as you can cram three squads of nine men into one Chimera transport in Winter assault, I'd say comfort isn't high on the Guard's list of priorites ;).
Although, if you survive the first shot, you can probably die lying down. But that's not preferable, considering it gives the opponent the opportunity to make your last moments more terrifying than going a year without fast food, though considerably unhealthier. |

Die standing??? I'd prefer to die laying down... it's much more comfortable that way... anyhow... I suppose that quantity has a quality of its own? Guess that's what guardsmen are for though... |

@Ian: So very true, but you forgot the most important part of their arsenal: Tanks. What self-respecting Guard regiment goes into battle without tanks?
But yes, the Lasgun is a glorified flashlight. It's great fun at parties though! |

Great job, the guns are fantastic, even if an orc is holding one. Also, the fire effect is nice, and the skeleton is a sweet final touch. |
