They're masters it seems, especially check out Phong Chang's "Ruiz" it's incredible.
The biggest tip I can give is study other's work, There's certain techniques to doing things, legs and feet especially that i've noticed almost everyone uses. Figure out how someone else did it, then see what you can do to improve on it/personalize it.
Also color palette is important, using colors that compliment each other.
