Who'd of thought Toy Story Lego would have been the answer to anyone's prayers for military greens pieces but there you go. Just had to whip something up, and this came immedietly to mind. I know it's not much, but just check out those cool mini-figs!
About this creation
Quiz : Can anyone remember what year the original photo was taken and where?
Clue : It was during WW-2 in the Pacific theatre of the war.
Hehe, lol, here's my sad attempt at a background...

Hay, It is ok. I don't mean to be rude, but this is an important event to me, so if I make a suggestion. There were actually 6 people raising the flag. (5 US Marines, and 1 Navy officer) It is pretty good, and I like your other creations, but if you could add the extra people, it would be one of the better scenes I've seen. I just had to make that comment because this is important to me. I'm a huge NAVY person. I'm building the WWII Memorial. Check it out when I'm done. I'll add you as a Favorite. |

Here's me being very nerdy but I could name the people.
Mike Strank, Rene Gagnon, Ira Hayes, Harlon Block, Franklin Sously, Hank Hansen, Ralph Ignatowski, John Bradley.
And the people made famous were the ones who put up up the peplacement flag after the first one was taken down.
Good representation though.
Wow, you sure know your history, nice and cheers... |

no doubt its the folliwng dates:
Iwo jima, 1945
I expect someone else has already guessed this, and I am basically doing a pointless answer.
hehe, well done, and it's never pointless to remember the war heroes of those civilisations that fought for freedom. Cheers... |

Semper Fi. US Marines raising Old Glory on the top of Mt. Surabachi during the invasion of Iwo Jima! Love it! |

A little to bright green for my tastes, I still prefer the Indian Jones army figs, but these work just as well. The photo was taken on Feburary 23, 1945 on the summit of Mount Surabachi, Iwo Jima by Joe Rosenthal. Did you know that this was not the first photo taken, one by Loy Lowerly was taken shortly before it at 10 AM. This was them raising the flag again. =) |

I do recall the famous photo of the flag raising on Mt Suribachi. The flag was raised during the Battle of Iwo Jima in 1945. This was one of the many islands where the Japanese fought almost to the last man. (I was a history major) – Well done MOC. |

And nobody's tried to identify it? It's the raising of the flag on Iwo Jima. And it's a great Moc. I had commented earlier but my first comment seems to have gone South. I had an uncle, Arleigh Ball, who also fought in that battle, and others.
P.S. I believe it was in February of 1945.
Hehe,Sand Ninja hit the nail on the head. It seems a fair few are familiar with it. P.S. I hope your Uncle made it through to the end of the war.
P.P.S. 'Lest we Forget.'
