This is Drat Soarer, its my second glider built completly from lego parts. Soarer features a new tail design, suggested to me by Creativeminds from the mindstorms forum, this design greatly increases the stability of Soarer in flight. The first tail used by Soarer was the same but it was inverted when compared to the current one. The wing design is the same as the one used in Drat Glider, however the body of Soarer is changed so that the wing is held about an inch above the main body. This seems to give Soarer increased glide distance. The total glide distance for Soarer ranges from 25ft to 31ft. If its hot out it seems to only go around 25ft, however when its cooler Soarer averages 30ft. The heat seems to soften the plastic, making them less effective in flight. From now on all my future designs will most likely feature the tail design that Soarer uses.
After my first glider I decided to keep on trying to improve my designs. Soarer was a huge improvement over Glider, hopefully my next one will be just as big of an improvement.
Obviously you built this a while ago now, but I was wondering whether you might provide some instructions on the Soarer's construction?
Inspired by your design, I've been trying to create something very similar but by using the orange truss support structures in the ExoForce Sentai Fortress set (as seen in this image: http://bricks.argz.com/bricksfiles/lego/07000/7709/061.jpg ), in order to reduce wing flex.
