The Redemption was an EF76 Nebulon-B escort frigate in service to the Rebel Alliance Fleet. Originally a standard Nebulon-B frigate, it was heavily modified to serve as the fleet's primary medical frigate during the Galactic Civil War.
About this creation
Yeah, I wanted to build one of these for over a year now. And now I have.

Here you can see the Nebulon on my table. It has a pair of rather long and slender legs. It could barely fit under the ceiling. There's my public space transport (and a bit of a minifig scale venator) there for scale.
I've used several source images (about ten to twelve), and they differ greatly on some detailed areas. So this is my interpretation or a mixture of those sources.

I think it looks quite impressive.

Detail shot of the greeblage on the water tank. Why do they need to bring so much water anyway? I tell you those bacta tanks are at least 99.9% water!

Schematics for the Nebulon-B. You should probably look at the bigger version to be able to read it.
And now it is also time for some stats:
- Length: 300 metres (or 172 studs)
- Width: 72 metres (or 52 studs)
- Height/depth: 166 meters (or wayyy high on its legs)
- Maximum acceleration: 1200G
- Maximum speed (atmosphere): 800 km/h
- Armament: Taim & Bak XI7 turbolasers (6), Borstel Galactic Defense RH8 laser cannons (8)
- Crew: 850 crew (of which 66 gunners, 75 troops, 80 medical staff, 30 medical droids)
- Passengers: 745 patients
- Cargo capacity: 6,000 metric tons (I assume that's mostly water then)

The Falcon is docked on the midsection connecting spar. I like the short-range communications antennas, and the greebles in front of it.

Another view of the Falcon, with an X-wing also docked on the spar. I liked adding some details at this point, like the observation/control tower window (above the X-wing nose).

More docked X-wings and one flying past.

I think the greebles on the aft section really give it a sense of massiveness.

Here we have an action shot from behind, with our first view of the seven engines. I also really like the static discharge vanes. It's another part that's distinctive for this ship.

This was one of the first bits I built. It's also one of the bits that I've always found intriguing about this ship. The collection of weapons, sensors, control rooms and medical facilities has always puzzled me. Why weren't the medical bays attached to the central bit, for instance? And why is it able to do atmospherical flights when it can obviously never land like this? Anyway, there are some good bits in there.

Detail shot of some of the sensors and weapons. The higher parts also have windows and bay doors and stuff. Yes, stuff! Nothing but the best for my ship.

WHOOSH! Flyover shot. Lovely stuff.
So anyway, if that ship is 300 metres long, that antenna is about 100 metres long. I bet they get some deep space probing done with that.

The ship's rear end. A lot of horizontal-oriented lines. I like the little rusty bits on there. As long as it doesn't try to sit down, I think it'll be okay.

Some engine action.

I think the aft section came out pretty well. The greebles with the tiny blue windows in them worked pretty well. Then there's the static discharge vanes, the shield projector and the engineering bay. Oh, and I also added some gnus. And guns. Gnus are also known as wildebeast. They are of not much use during battles in outer space.
But hey, it gets your 6,000 tonnes of cargo space filled up pretty easily.

A more detailed shot of the greebles on the aft section. As I said, I like how these turned out. Hence the detailed picture. I tried using as much horizontal lines as possible, to give an impression of a lot of separate decks.

An even more detailed shot of the deflector shield generator and some of the roof greebling. I used square tiles for the outsides in contrast with the horizontal lines on the back and front of this part. Gives it a bit of a heat tile / shield feel to it.
PFEW!
Measuring 172 studs long, this is by far the biggest project I've ever endeavoured. There were many times during the build that I didn't think I was going to make it. Sometimes I had to actually *think* for days about how I was going to handle a specific part without having the ship breaking apart or falling over.
And to tell you the truth, I reconed it had a better chance of falling over then ever getting finished. So that's why I'm glad it's over now.
Overall, I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out. There are some details that I would like to see improved, but I haven't figured out how yet ;)

OOOHHH yes. I think you are the first to build this ship in LÈGO. As all the other comments this is great, overall detailed, specially the front with the tanks, sensors etc. are well done. Since you're buildning dowm from the ships bottom, how do you keep it from falling of? All the weight is on the underside:-) Do you build from your own lego collection or do you buy parts somewhere. What about building the transport ship they escape in, when the remote base on endor is attacked. I dont know the name of the ship:-) Keep 'em comming, LEGO needs a designer like you:-) Best from Denmark.
There's no problem with the weight on the bottom. It's the weight at the top I should be concerned about. Really, it swings on its feet when I give it just a little push with my finger. But the feet are surprisingly flexible and sturdy ;) |

very nice work, but there is one major flaw, it's very fragile, anyone can see the spine is bending, I suggest using the hybrid bars with the holes in the sides for a stronger overall structure
Thank you. But you are wrong on all accounts though ;) Firstly, it's not fragile at all. It may swing on its legs from left to right, but the spire is very strong. It also runs along inside the hull bits all to the legs. Secondly, the spine is not bending in real life. That's the lens I had to use (regular lens still at the repair shop after six weeks). The rest is just distance perception. And thirdly, the spire is made out of those bars you mention almost entirely, and then completely camouflaged with greebles ;) |

Fantastic stuff! Insane, really... ;-)
What is the exact scale of the model? (I figure around 1:200)
That's an interesting question. I measured the model and it's about 140cm (1.4m) long. So that's a scale of 1:214 to be precise.
Quoting Matty Mason
You have outdone yourself this time, Steef. I love the greebles on this thing, so many of them as well. The downside...wait, what downside, you ask? The water tank is too small! I know, after reading the stuff you wrote, that you're thinking 'WHAT?!', but yeah, the water tank is too small. Make it bigger and--wait, what are you doing with that turbolaser, Steef? ...Steef?
*smoldering ashes remain where I'm sat*
Haha! I know though. It is indeed too small. Two reasons: I didn't have the pieces. And, more importantly, I don't think the construction could hold much more. It was one of the bigger flaws that I was aware of when building it, but I like it all the same.
Quoting Dan the Man
!!!!!
Wow.
I bet that was hard to make - not only getting it right (with which you'd done a master job) but keeping it supported whilst building mist have been quite a task too; it's a pretty fragile-looking shape.
To sum up my awed thoughts on this; this is so well done that nobody has, or will ever build a better, more accurate one of these than yours !
- Dan
I'm not sure about that last statement, but I am flattered all the same, thanks ;) There were indeed some extremely delicate moments along the way. Nervewrecking even sometimes. Maybe that's the biggest reason I am proud that I pulled it off in the end.

Make it bigger and--wait, what are you doing with that turbolaser, Steef? ...Steef?

Yes. 1) Build two big towers with feet out of technic beams. 2) Build a 100-stud horizontal bar out of technic beams. 3) Combine bar with towers. 4) Cover with various grey bits. 5)... 6) Profit! |

I was wondering, when did you start this? I assume it was before the MOCOlympics?
Nope. I started about a week after Sinterklaas (Dec. 5). It took me about two weeks to build, on and off. Okay, maybe two and a half weeks, now I think about it ;)

You now rival Kelso. 8^o... EDIT: I'm still drooling over this, but congrats on being blogged by TBB! &^D
I don't think so. I think my building sk|lLz0rZ will have to improve a bit, and my builds will have to be a bit bigger to rival a thing like the Invisible Hand! But I like the fact that you seem to think I'm on par. And yes! Being blogged by TBB is way cool :)

Amazing. I don't know how you big-ship guys do it, but you do. So, what now? I mean, that's a keeper, something that may never be taken apart. Put it on your mantle, I guess. Awesome.
"We're going to need a bigger mantle" :)
Actually, I'm not much of a keeper of sets. Mostly because if I do, I will never get to build another thing in grey anytime soon. I did keep my Twin Pod Cloud Car for now, but that's because I didn't need that much red yet.

Stef, form the early days, the Nebulon B has been one of my favorite ships from the Star Wars Universe. I can't believe how well you've captured it. This is one of the best capital ships modeled here. Your Falcon and X-Wings are amazing as well. Your references must be first rate! There are also sketches of another Nebulon that has two hulls in an inverted V shape in place of the one. I can't remember where I saw it, but if you can find a reference for it, it would make a great MOC. Regards, Eric. |

Why can't more Sw builders put this much time into there mocs right now I'm working on a few SW creations of my own. This is very well built and thought out! But one question, it is sturdy because of the thin middle area?
The middle area is surprisingly sturdy. I've formed a bridge between the two legs it's standing on using 4+4 rows of technical beams and dozens of large plates. It's basically a 100-stud rod keeping everything together. The real challenge trying no to tip it over in its entirety. |

Big. Very big. Very excellent Moc. The one thing I liked about the Star Wars series was the detail on their vessels, and you've aced that here. Still, I would hate to have to be the guy who has to maneuver that baby. You'd certainly need computer assistance then. Too much differential between thrusters and that middle section is gonna split right apart. But it's really great to look at, that's for sure. |
