This Lego mansion only in exists in the plastic brick world, its not a replica...
About this creation

I have wanted to build something like this for years. I am now 35 and have not built any Lego creations for far too long. Unfortunately or fortunately (as I secretly love it) I am hooked and want to build more, limited perhaps by finances and space, LOL... Its a very expensive hobby.
In terms of actual building, I tend to just place a brick and see what happens, pretty much like I did with this 'English Mansion' as it was not planned, I just layed out a floor plan which fitted the desk top and started to build. What I have ended up with is a kind of Jacobean mansion (more historically correct would be to say its a mixture of eras, the back even has Scottish elements of architectural design; this just happened as I was building).
I have used little lights inside too so various rooms light up at night. The great hall is the best room with a gallery and hammer beam roof and I have managed to make little chandliers too. All the rooms are linked by corridors and staircases and I have added internal fixtures and fire places; if only I could shrink myself and wander around the rooms...
One thing I should have done is to have arranged it so the whole thing opened up, as it hard to see inside. The great hall does have two large removeable windows though so its possible to see inside. The next large build I create will be designed and planned, I just enjoyed 'winging it' this time as its a great deal of fun!
I think I will create a modern house/building next (although I have already started building a matching garage/stable block) and would love to build a huge cathedral or palace. In fact there are loads of things I wanna build but they are going to have to wait, I estimate it would cost at least £12.000.00 to build a catherdral/palace for instance so I had better start doing the lottery again me thinks!
I am new to this site and I must say there are some talented people out there...
Anyway thanks for reading, I hope you like my little house.
Happy Building!

I first was looking through the pictures and at first I was like "there's no way there's an interior" but then i came across the second set of pictures and I was like, "me gusta, there's an interior!" This is unbelievable, you took my expectations and flew to the moon with them! One of the best buildings out there, and truly deserving of MOC of the day! Good job. On a side not, this reminds me a little of Wayne Manor. |

I was very amazed by this structure, and I wanted to tackle a similar project in MLCAD for the fun of it. Anyways, I was wondering how you made your foundation, because that is what I am struggling with. I don't know if it is a good idea to make a plated foundation or just put tiles on the grass. But if I did use plates, how big would that have to be? I will accept answers from anyone. :) |

This is, by far, the greatest model I've seen in a long time. The only advice I can offer is to make some of the walls on hinges, so you can swing them out and get a look around inside. The hinges can sometimes be tricky to figure out, but if you get them right, the model will look the same but anyone who is looking at it will get to see the absolutely splendid work you did on the inside. Can't wait to see what you make next! |

Cheers, I have seen the design for a chateau you have done on you page... It is reminiscent of 'Biltmore' the Vanderbilt Mansion, also the mighty Chombard chateau in France. And it also has similarities to a mansion called 'Waddensdon Manor' owned by the De Rothschilds here in England... Are you fond of chateaux, they are my favourite buildings, I want to build one but Lego do not do roof tiles with a steep enough incline for the mansard roof?

You simply ~must~ get more interior shots without it being taken apart. If you can get into the rooms somehow with a camera, You could create a tour of the entire house that way. The one Interior shot you have gave me the feeling I was inside of a lifesize building with lego furniture in it. THe lack of studs gives this a very polished and real look and feel! You could probably even use some MEgablock Knight minifigs in it for an Armor Hall.

Amazing model. I wouldn't complain about age I'm 33 and will still be playing with lego when I'm into my 80s. As for needing more lego we all have that problem, but you seem to have quiet a bit already. Great building again and never be ashamed to tell people what you do, and if they do laugh, tell them to google lego artist and that tends to shut them up. happy building.

Thats a lot of bricks. It's great that you stuck with your project for so long. I would have gotten board and just posted something smaller. The lighting looks very complicated too. Impressive build |

Mate, this is awesome, very very good indeed. Love all the detail. Have been planning on building something similar for a while now myself, but like you say it costs a fortune to build something like that (not to mention the time it takes!) Anyway, Incredible building my friend, well done. |

Thanks for your comments, i must say i had not even considered the fact that it may be put on display but i have had so many complimentary comments that i think it would be fun to put it on display somewhere. I will build the next one in sections i think, luckily I can move this one as its very robust and well put together, I just need a sturdy board to put it on. Thanks for your tips though, your buildings are super cool!

Very impressive debut. It looks like you captured the complexity of the style quite well. You may find that you will want to modify it to make it portable so you can display it at LEGO events. I learned this the hard way with my first large MOC (the Fisher Building). >>>

A very impressive masterpiece indeed! I too am interested in architecture, but most of my lego is space-oriented. So I don't think I'll build any buildings any time soon. And certainly not at this scale! ;) What immediately caught my eye were the roof windows. It's like they're added later by new owners of the mansion. This gives the building some historic perspective that makes it even cooler.
You are spot on mate, originally my intention was to have a flat roof but when it came to it i wanted the challenge of creating the roof (may fav bit), so what i have ended up with is more a victorian interpretation of early 1600's mansion. The dormer roof windows would have more than likely been set back behind a balustrade if it were true to style. Better planning needed next time as i really didnt do any this time... Thanks for your comments and to everyone who has kindly commented so far! |

Now that you have created a master piece that few people could dream of you should get this displayed at some conventions and such. This wouldn't be half as good if you didn't have the inside. The outside by itself is phenomenal none the less adding the detail of the inside. 5/5

I can't believe this hasn't any comments yet... this looks incredible! I'll bet you're an architect. The build is perfect, nothing to complain about. The inside is beautifull as well. The tiled floors give a nice effect. Are the different floors removable? Otherwise you can add these hinges: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=3830c01, so that you can get an inside look. Again, amazing work! ~M
Thanks, nope i did not build it so it comes apart... will do on the next creation. Thanks for tip with the hinges... I also found these too but they did not do them in mid grey... Thanks again. |
