I love this. the original 8466 set is one of the best sets ever produced by LEGO and you've improved it even more! I would like you to check out my page. I did a mod of the newer extreme off roader set and i would like to get your opinion

This is pretty intense, too. Are you an engineer or a mechanic? I recall building the Technic Space Shuttle in '96 or '97, all those little gears and worm drives. That was nothing compared to these rigs. Well done.

Great work also I did apply a lot of parts of the 8466 on the pickup truck I built. The only thing is that you mainly worked on a good suspension and 4-wheel steering. I did work on some interior and exterior work.

Quoting Fyre Dog I love this! This is from the 8466 kit right? I have this kit, planning on motorizing it and taking advantage of the 4 wheel steering. Question, what do the springs in the diffs do?
Well thanks! I used parts from several sets. The tires are indeed from 8466. I did a complete makeover wich was quite a bit larger than the 8466 model. The springs in the front and rear differential prevent the vehicle from stopping when one of them has no grip (is in the air, mud, ice). An alternative is a differential locking mechanism. Only when a vehicle is making a turn while the differentials are locked, too much friction might come. Limited slip differentials prevent this (axle or wheel breakage) I Choose LSD (limited slip diff) because i wanted to motorize the vehicle. Only it turned out is is way too big to be motorized. My new moc had three lockable differentials, also a 5+R gearbox and runs in all gears with one xl motor. Compliments on your moc by the way. Nice job for the excavator. Have you ever tried to build it with an adder substractor for driving/steering? I can't make it work perfect... I'd like to see your next moc. grtz

Thanks!, I welcome all comments and suggestions. I'm currently planning a rebuild with the same functions plus a switch between 2 and 4 wheel drive. And because the use of two new style differenials in rhe front and rear axle, the lsd will no longer be available. no problem, because the vehicle will never be motorized with pf or anything..
