I've seen a couple of "thin ships" and thought the theme was a very cool idea. So, here is my first creation in the Thin-Ships Theme. Hopefully you guys (and gals too) don't think it's as bad as I do.
About this creation
Specter Class Flat-Ship is a heavy fighter with stealth capabilities.
It is capable like all Flat-Ships of attacking capital ships because of the very small target they present in a head on engagement.
One disadvantage of this arrangement is that there is limited space for front mounted weapons so Flat-Ships have to compensate for this with large and powerfull guns on the leading edge.
When they disengage from their target the give a small rear profile also for easy escape.
All flat ships are particularly prone to being flanked. The inventors are still trying to overcome this problem though. In this picture you can see the cooling fins for the ship's Chrystal Fusion reactor.
The front section of the Specter rotates in battle to aid manuverability and to expose 4 more powerfull Phazers.
The cockpit orb is capable of breaking off from the ship if needed and is practically a ship in it's own right.
It is also the piot's way of bording the ships which are kept in spacedock for lack of landing gear.
The cockpit orb opens up revealing the piot.
Here is a view of an officer pilot.
The pilots sit in special hover chairs which can rotate inside the cockpit orb during combat.
That is a wicked take on the thinship design. I like how the front spins to add more firepower on the attack. Well done, don't forget to add it to the longships/thinships group http://www.mocpages.com/group.php/3391.
I'm so happy to see such good builders taking on Thinships! Great approach to the TS concept, I like the empty space "inside" it, and its artistic design. As for the flanking, I think you just need to spin your ThinFighter to offer a blinking target to your opponents.
