About this creation
Meanwhile back on the planet, the F.I.S. forces started wandering about, setting up camp around their ruined cruiser. Some of the explorers went back into the ship to try and salvage as much as they could and take it back outside.
Jamie Clift sat by himself on a small rock just next to they body of the former FIS leader, who lay face down in a muddy puddle at the base of the old building. Under Iadsgb’s rule, Jamie had been second in command; but now Iadsgb was dead, he was the leader. He sat there staring blankly at the body, thinking about what to do next.
A faint whirring sound came from Iadsgb’s suit and a few sparks shot into the air. Jamie looked at it. More sparks shot from the shoulder mechanisms and the whirring got louder. A loud clunk sounded and the arms started moving. Jamie stood up in surprise. Iadsgb was alive! The thought-to-be-dead leader pushed himself up using his just his arms, the legs seemed to be damaged, his head lolling down like a broken doll with his eyes shut, but then collapsed back into the dirt under the strain.
“Help! Stallion! Denser! Quick!” Jamie yelled
then dropped down beside his friend and rolled him onto his back. Iadsgb’s eyes flickered slightly.
Commander Stallion arrived at Jamie’s side “What? What is it?”
“He’s alive!” Jamie said with a huge smile. Null 9 appeared.
“Quick; Denser; you and Stallion get a stretcher. HURRY!” Jamie ordered over his shoulder as the two ran off, before he turned back to Iadsgb and started to undo the bolts that held him in what was left of the metal suit.
But back on The Manipulator, Blast stood next to a workbench in the engineering department, nervously running a hand through his hair as he watched a team of technicians and mechanics slaving away over the body of Electrock that lay on the bench facing the ceiling with closed eyes. Unmoving and lifeless. Eventually after a few hours of waiting and watching and watching and waiting, the hubbub died down and the head engineer walked up to Blast.
“I’m sorry Sir. There’s nothing more we can do.” Blast nodded and the engineer walked off. R.K. rubbed his eyes sleepily with the palms of his hands and yawned as a big white cloth was thrown over the remains of Electrock.
Blast looked on for a few more seconds then turned towards the door, picked up his helmet from the metal side bench, stored it under his arm and walked slowly from the room.
Meanwhile at the F.I.S. camp, Iadsgb, who had been removed from his suit, lay on a cold, metal bench in a makeshift hospital tent. Jamie Clift stood in the doorway watching nervously as his best friend and leader was swarmed by medics and surgeons attempting to heal him. Iadsgb let out a small scream and Jamie flinched.
One of the medics went up to him and gently ushered him from the tent, before closing the flap behind him.
He sat down on a lump of durasteel that had flown from The Desolation when it was crushed and waited, listening to screams and moans of pain and agony from inside the tent, mixed with frantic voices and whirring of tools from the medics. He waited for hours and hours without any news of what was going on. In that time he had been offered a plate of food twice but refused it both times.
Then just after sundown things quietened down and the tent flap opened as a medic came out. “You may come in now sir.” he said to Clift who stood up and thanked him before following him back inside the tent. The medics and engineers still bustled about, clearing away the tools and mopping up blood, but Jamie didn’t see them. All he saw was his leader lying on his back on the table. But he was different. He had changed. As Jamie moved closer he realized what was different. Half of Iadsgb’s face was metal; all hard with spiky edges. His hair had been cut in a hurry and was a mess.
Jamie stopped next to his master’s head and the FIS leader slowly turned to look at him. Clift smiled and saluted, half-formally, half in-formally and the half of Iadsgb’s face that was still flesh and bone smiled gingerly in return. Jamie lowered his arm and asked “Are you alright sir?”
Iadsgb raised his eyebrows at him.
“Well, of course you’re not alright but if you... well...I... I just meant...” Jamie stammered embarrassed.
“Spit it out Clift.” Iadsgb said still smiling.
“I... I just meant... Look, how do you feel sir? Is there anything I can get you?”
“No. No thank you Jamie. Unless you happen to be able to restore my face.”
“Um... Sorry sir, no.” Jamie looked at the ground.
“Hm... thought not. Well in that case get the ships engines primed and ready for takeoff.” Iadsgb moaned then shifted about a bit and sat up.
“Um.... about the ship. Sir there’s something you need to know.” Jamie said and shuffled his feet.
“Go on.” Iadsgb prompted.
“Well, after you passed out; Blast sort of destroyed The Desolation.” Jamie mumbled still looking at the floor.
“WHAT!” Iadsgb bellowed making everyone in the room jump. “WHAT DO YOU MEAN HE DESTROYED IT! DIDN’T ANYONE TRY AND STOP HIM!”
“Well, yes! But it wasn’t our fault! He... he used the force from up the top of that tower you had that battle at. I don’t know how but he just, just sort of gestured at it and it blew up. We COULDN’T stop him!” Jamie started to get annoyed but Iadsgb laid back down and stared blankly at the ceiling.
“Have you tried contacting the fleet?” he asked the roof.
“No sir, not yet.” Jamie replied.
“Right.” Iadsgb said suddenly swiveling round on the bench and dropping off the side onto his feet next to Jamie. “Then that is what we’ll need to do next.”
“But sir; How are we going to contact them? They’re at the other side of the galaxy and we’re stuck here with only short range communications left!” Jamie asked in confusion as he watched Iadsgb slip his shoes on then walk from the tent. Clift dashed after him and outside Iadsgb turned to look at him. Only then did Jamie realize that one of Iadsgb’s eyes was mechanical, as it swiveled in and out, trying to focus on Jamie’s face.
“How long ago did Blast leave?” he asked.
“About.... five hours I’d say sir.” Clift replied.
“Good. Well within range.” Iadsgb turned and marched off towards a little area full of wires and whirring machinery.
“Within range?” Jamie mumbled to him self confused, but then worked out what the FIS leader was planning and chased after him.
