SW Tournament R2: Brickdoctor vs. Rocky W. vs. Kly
Here's my entry for Round 2, Category: Podracers
About this creation
Here's my entry for round two. I wanted to do something classic with this prequel category, so I chose the X-wing. The Falcon and Slave 1 wouldn't translate well into a podracer. The result of combining a concept X-wing and Sebulba's podracer was very pleasing, and I liked the use of Luke as the pilot, Yoda as Qui-Gon, and R2 and 3PO as a pit team. In keeping with the classic theme, I use all the old minifigs: white-domed R2, light pearl gold C-3PO, original Yoda, and yellow-faced Luke. I'm also really happy with the pod. The nose took forever to get right.

"No, no, no, no! That goes there, this goes here, you rust bucket! And don't you get all hyped up, either. The odds of a human winning a podrace are exactly 738,925 to 1."
*Indignant twitter*
"What do you mean 'I know things you don't'? I am a protocol droid. The odds of a utility droid possessing more knowledge than an AA-1 Verbobrain are exactly 3,793,237 to 1."
*Mocking beeps*
"I am not a mindless philosopher, you overweight blob of grease!"

"Think, do not. Feeeeel. Your instincts, use them."
"I'll try."
"No! Do, or do not. There is no 'try' Ugh, can you not just say 'I will', as your father did?"

Quoting William Meng Nice MOC as usual! C3PO is acting like that tactical droid on Ryloth. "The chances of the republic winning is blah blah blah to one." "The chances of you knowing more than me is blah blah blah to one!"
No, the tactical droid was acting like C-3PO. Or have Clone Wars fans forgotten about a blockbuster 1980 movie called "The Empire Strikes Back"?

O.K., so I look at this thing and am like,"Oh look, a podracer. Nothing special here." Then I take a second look and realize,"Woah! That's an X-Wing podracer. This is incredable!" Of course, I knew from the very begining that you were an incredible builder but this was a really creative idea. Way cool

Wow can't believe I haven't commented on this. This is excellent, the engine pods are my favorite part! Hey would you be interested in judging a moc-off I am with, It is okay if you don't want to, I understand. Thanks

Hey remember my wasp halo vehicle? well I entered it into a contest on flickr, and it got first place! Again best of luck with your tournament, some thrust vectoring would be awesome (and I rarely use that word).

Quoting Michael Qoyawayma Let's just say I hope I don't have to face you...
I suppose that's one of the best compliments a man can get. You yourself are a great builder. I look forward to our confrontation. Mwa ha ha ha ha!

Quoting Brady G Ah. Did you ever have that old set? Anikin's pod? Ah, I spend hours vrooming around the yard with that one... That was 3 years ago, don't be assuming anything.
Nope. Wished I did. (or used to wish) My first set was actually the UCS Naboo Starfighter. Built it, swoosed it, displayed it, rebuilt it, slapped myself 5 years later when I found out it's worth $200 in mint condition. Second set was the Droid Developer Kit. Built it, played it, rebuilt it, programmed it, slapped myself - well, you know what I'm going to say. Unfortunately, I was more of a City geek until 2002. Fortunately, that means I have quite a few rarer accessories.

Quoting Brady G Hmm... Not bad, I'd say you were out of ideas when it came to the connecty-lazer, one must remember how TLG did it, those old trans-orange SW cannons were manufactured for a reason, you know. The side air intakes could have at least used a grille or under-greebles. I mean, just because you can beat someone down pat with one hand tied behind your back, with a frozen tuna doesn't mean you have to stomp on the poor competitors and leave them there! You should be ashamed of yourself. :3 Maybe I should start on something StarWarsey. That seems to be what gets the most attention around here... Meh, ah well. Good luck!
Nope. Those who create groups focusing on Sharpied clones and invite a million of other people who do that get the most attention. ;-) If you read some of the comments, I accidentally believed that the deadline was today. And trans-orange (I think they're called) power couplings are innaccurate. Everyone's pods in Ep. 1 had trans-purple, except for Neva Kee, who drove a one-piece concept pod. Purple is hard enough to get, without having to dig up 30+ studs of it. There's a reason purple studs are worth the most in LEGO Star Wars (the video game). I actually like the studs in trans-blue shades.

Quoting Tbone tbl Ok that's cool, glad to hear you won, sorry to hear you didn't actually get to compete. The engines aren't that bad, just for future possibilities. :-)
I don't usually do fanon unless I have to, but I might redo it. The engines I really just threw together, I'm counting on the pod to redeem it. :-) I wasn't on MOCpages on the Saturday the new brackets were posted, Sunday, we were at church all day, Monday was spent brainstorming. I didn't actually get to start building 'till Monday night. I finished the pod Tuesday, threw in engines Tuesday night, photographed and uploaded on Wednesday - and found out that I was a week early. That was long... so anyways, I might redo the engines with some thrust direction flaps, exhaust vents, etc.

Quoting Brickman . X-pod!
I thought of that, but LEGO used to make sets called X-pods, and that would be confusing because I didn't actually use any X-pods in this MOC.

Quoting Tbone tbl Oh how did your last mocoff/tournament thing go?
I thought about doing a mini, but that would mean another bignette or diorama, which I just did. The engines, well, I ran out of pieces, so I just ripped the first white rounds I found off stock sets, which turned out to be the ARC-170 (from '05) and the RGS. I figured the air intakes on the printed ARC-170 engines made it look more podracer-ish, and I had mistakenly thought that deadline was a week earlier than it really is. And my opponent never entered Round 1, so I won by default.

I see the theme, but I don't think this is your best. For one it isn't mini lol ;-) I would prefer to see different techniques used for the engines instead of wheels, it is a little too simple, but it works ok here. The rest is cool, and I enjoyed all the parallels between the new and original trilogy. Overall nice job and best of luck. :-) Oh how did your last mocoff/tournament thing go?
  November 11, 2009
It actually resembles an ARC-170 a bit more than the x-wing but it still looks great.
