About this creation
That's my entry to Shannon's Vig/orama Contest, obviously the category is diorama ;)

Well, what is this you wonder? You are right, that's a launch track that uses magnetic impulse to accelerate fighters up to unbelievable speed. It's much more cost effective than the older model of a runway. Fighters can easily reach escape velocity, without the need to carry extra much kerosine. Though, to be honest, I don't think that by the time something like this becomes possible, aircrafts would still need kerosine at all. I rather thought of some kind of fusion energy, but well who knows.

One of those fusion reactors is enough to provide energy for electromagnetic levitation.

I love those fighters. Actually this was inspired by an artwork of James Paick. I wanted to build something different though, as his was meant to be a speeder, not starting on a track. The round shape of the front works as a wing in some kind. That's why the actual wings are pretty small and just for steering in atmosphere. The whole body concept again saves a lot of energy.

I consider the blue one to be a newer variant, it is much sleeker and not as heavy. The most significant difference is the front and the back of the cockpit. I didn't have that wedge pieces in dark red, but as soon as I get some, I will change the red one. So far I think it works, but I know that it is just a temporary improvisation.

Extra notes for Shannon: Thanks for hosting that contest! I know I wouldn't have made that diorama if there wasn't a contest (but I would have built that fighters ^^). It wasn't built to win this contest though, I just build it because I had that idea. I mean, I didn't try to come up with something that YOU would like, it's just something that I like. That's why I probably won't enter Keith' contest for example, I don't like to build what others want me to build, I just build for my own pleasure. And yeah, it might not be that wise to upload it so soon, but hey, I don't care ;)

I won't say that Shannon rocks by the way :P

Now guys, tell me how you like it! :)

This was very intertaning to look at. I really like the idea of the track to launch them into the air/space. Your fighters on the otherhand are AMAZING! I love the techniques you used on the nose section. They really do have that futuristic airodynamic feel to them which adds to the coolness for sure!

Quoting danny morgan Whoa, this is spectacular! Great Fighter concept. Keep building dios like this... um ... please...
I'd really like to, but unfortunately I don't have that many bricks and it always takes some time until I can finally get myself to disassemble something I like that much. So I'll rather build some smaller stuff in between.
Quoting J.C. Stewart [5700] But you did just say Shannon rocks! By the way, I want instructions for the fighters, they are awesome!
Hey! What!? I didn't say he rocks, I just wrote those words, nothing wrong with that ;) And I'm sorry, but I don't do instructions, not because I'm a meanie, I just don't have the time. There is a picture of the front partially taken apart, maybe it helps you. ;) http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/173214

I thought I commented on this already... Well, all I can say here is great! SO much detail just "flickering" around on this. The name fits in perfectly with the creation as well. But, my favorite part is definitely the landscape! Beautiful design. Also the ships are very detailed and highly original from all of the ships I see these days! But just great job! Keep up at this level of quality and keep on building! >>--Joe--<<

Quoting Jake H. whats the flying cow doing there?
Actually I gave this build a lot of thought. First I wanted to build the whole track system inside a tunnel, so enemy spies couldn't find it that easily. But I guess that wake turbulences and compressed air at the front of the craft wouldn't allow for that. So I had to build it outside in the open air. Still I'm not sure whether it's possible to achieve that high speeds I'm assuming here (40.000km/h), given the high air pressure at a low altitude. However, I guess there is some kind of suction when the aircraft passes by. That's why there are no trees, just some grass. This cow, however, was unlucky to browse inside the danger zone. Of course it was inspired by the movie "Twister". I guess everyone remembers the flying cow...? But it also gives you a hint, where in Japan (those signs on the aircrafts are Japanese ;) ) this location is. Cows usually only exist in the northern part, called Hokkaido. Why this is in Hokkaido and not around Tokyo, is easy to explain. It takes less than 2 minutes from Hokkaido to Tokyo at high-speed, and fighters can easily reach each point of the strategical more important southern part of Japan. I mean, consider that there is only one direction, they would need several launch tracks towards different directions, if built somewhere in mid-Japan. Once the fighters arrive at their destination, they are meant to lower their speed of course,as it would be impossible to fight or maneuver at 40.000km/h. This concept is just for fast and efficient access, there is no other advantage of these fighters in an ordinary dogfight. To finish this comment...to me the cow is much more than just a funny scene to loosen the boring diorama - it's the key to everything! :)

At the risk of repeating a lot of comments from below, the craft are superb with great shapes, the scenery is just chock full of cool little details and this has already got to be a strong contender. I admire your build philosophy too. I tend to get distracted by contests from whatever I want to build, so i'm pretty glad Shannon's contest is really open-ended. Good luck!

Quoting 2x4 .
