THIS MODEL HAS BEEN OFFICIALLY RETIRED. A small, extremely agile aerofighter used by the ESC for atmosphere combat. By its pilots and ground crew, it is affecionately called the "Stinger".
About this creation
The AeroDyne 8-Assault Air-Superiority Fighter, loving known as the "Stinger" by it's crew. Surviveablity in fighter aircraft often translates to speed, size and manueverablity. The smallest, fastest, most manueverable fighter wins, granted the pilots are on equal terms. Since the development of Crystallic Resonance PowerCells, ESC aricraft have grown even smaller.
The AD 8A is a dogfighter type aircraft designed to shoot down other aircraft, and as such requires speed and manueverabilty. It recieves its thrust from dual duct turbofan turbines, which are entirely fuel free, thanks to the Crystallic Resonance PowerCells. It does however carry a small fueltank for its afterburner ramjets.
The weapons used on the AD 8A are somewhat interchangeable, the belly and wing missile loadout brackets are interchangeable for mission specific loadouts, but the small anti-fighter missiles on the foreward stabilizers are standard and non-exchangable. It also carries two .50 dogfighter guns, each with 2500 rounds and a fire rate of 1250 rounds a minute. It's maximum payload is 10 missiles and the two fighter guns.
The AD 8A measures in at 17 feet long, with a wingspan of 24 feet. Top speed is Mach 2.4 with a cruising speed of Mach 1.3. Extremely agile with a minimum turnradius of 25 feet.
This design was influenced by the Anime miniseries Yukikaze. The original base was a Mission Mars Astrofighter.
