LMS Explorer (V4)
My fourth revision of my creation, the LMS Explorer. The LMS Explorer is a mining ship from the Rock Raiders theme. (Based on screenshots of the PC game's intro movie.)
About this creation
I have (re)created the LMS Explorer from the Rock Raiders PC game. I made some significant changes, basically building it again from scratch in order to make it more realistic. My previous version of the LMS Explorer was built around (actually on top of) a series of green baseplates. I decided to go with a more realistic, shaped hull design for this version. I used just simple 2x4 gray bricks to shape the basic structure of the hull. This is a significant improvement over my previous designs. (See the changes from V1, V2, V3)

This ship is the most important Rock Raider vehicle as it holds all of the Rock Raiders, their equipment, materials, and other supplies. Capable of reaching lightspeed via powerful engines, the LMS Explorer also carries a powerful shielding system capable of defending against such threats as asteroids and other interstellar debris. With an advanced sensor array and an advanced long range teleportation system, the LMS Explorer is fully equipped to transport and support the Rock Raiders mining team on extended missions.

This is the vastly improved version of my first generation LMS Explorer which was too short and had too many miscellaneous doodads.
It is a further improvement over the second generation version of my LMS Explorer which, while better, was still too short and blocky.
The hull shape in particular is more refined than the hull shape of the V3. I also added more elements to break up the long gray continuity of the hull.

This ship is not supposed to be an exact replica, but rather a good impression of it, so I took some artistic license in places. If I had more gray bricks, I would have pushed the length of the ship a bit longer to make it more proportional with the bridge/command tower. Also, I could implement an underside to the ship as well. Currently it's just open on the bottom with supports to help it stand. I'm not sure what scale this would translate to, but it felt right. I hope you enjoy this creation of mine; Rock Raiders was an amazing theme!

Quoting Maren Frerck Hi, I need a construction plan for this one for my son - urgently :) Could you tell me where I can find it ? Maybe I overlooked it here on the site, I just cant find it. I think your creation is awesome - IŽd be very glad to be able to rebuild it with my son. kindly, Maren
Hi Maren, Unfortunately, no construction plans exist; I made this just as a fun project by referring to the Rock Raiders introductory video clip. Some general advice though: Get a ton of grey bricks! As I recall, I used plates throughout the middle core of it to provide structural support. Make sure to stagger the bricks on each other; ie, don't build them in perfectly vertical columns, or it'll be weak. Grab some random black, grey, and fluorescent green pieces to scatter across it too. I'm sure you and your son can come up with an imaginative take on it! I hope that helps!
