Of Saints and Angels
Several months ago, when the Coalition of Planets “Offered” the Tri-Planet Coalition its “Protection” from the United Nations of Earth, the TPC realized their actual intentions and cordially invited the COP to take a long walk off a short pier. This only served to anger the COP, and they violated their previous non-aggression pact and initiated a “Bombard and subjugate” campaign against the Tri-Planet Coalition; a method that had humbled countless systems before. The TPC operated a small 18th Deep Space Fleet airbase on an obscure planet that suddenly found itself in the crosshairs of the first strike, and hence, the only thing standing between the TPC home system and the COP. Though it was officially designated a military base, there were but twenty fighters (ten each from the 2nd and 3rd flotillas) in an underground hangar to protect an extensive settlement and research facility from marauding pirate bands. Nothing more than a temporary stop-gap.
About this creation
One week ago, a COP carrier group dropped out of slip-stream and its two cruisers opened fire without so much as giving the settlement a chance to surrender, not that they would have anyway. Their barbarism was avenged as five destroyers from the 2nd Flotilla came to the rescue. Though they suffered one lost and the rest damaged to the point of withdrawing, the destroyers forced the COP to withdraw their cruisers, though the carrier remained in orbit. With their initial plan stymied, the carrier dispatched wave after wave of bombers to flatten the already blazing city. Losses were high on both sides of the air war above the planet, but whereas the COP losses were immediately replaceable, the TPC’s were not.

Some vivid and horrible memories from the logs of the Incron pilot (pictured): “Still, at night, I cannot sleep. Whenever I close my eyes, I hear the last radio calls filled with… screaming. The painful cries of wounded and dying men, the moans of mothers deprived of their children, children crying over their parents in confusion, then the radio falls silent. You are filled with sickness as you realize, they’re gone forever. Shaking, I still feel the shaking that rumbled through the ground when the first shells hit. Many of the pilots lost their entire families in the attack. I saw it in them; in some, the gnawing pain that slowly consumed them as they tried to push it down. Others became screaming, raging animals, begging the flight leader to let them have a chance at those devils. I thank the Molder my wife’s pass here was delayed…”

“Most of the men are gone now, only two of us left, it was like losing a brother when I saw each one of them go down. The only thing that keeps me going is the knowledge that every day we hold them here is another day my dearest is safe at home. My fellow pilot, a Tiberian, is a cocky 18 year old with nothing to fight for but to some day grow a beard. Or at least that’s the way he acts. His parents died in an inter-planet transport accident when he was only a year of age, so he has no family. As much of a pain-in-the-neck he is, he’s saved my rear a couple times. Hope he makes it…”

After two weeks, one fighters remained from each flight. One fighter from Saints 7 Flight, the other from Angels 2 Flight. 18 days after the attack began, the 1st Flotilla sallied forth and brought salvation to the besieged planet, and Saints/Angels Flight became the stuff of legend. The two surviving pilots were decorated with seven medals including one each from the ambassador from the United Nations of Earth.

The dark gray ship is from the 3rd Flotilla (Black) and the lighter one from the 2nd Flotilla (Blue).

By far the largest project I've ever worked on, it measures over 1700 studs in area.

Here's where the contest entry portion is:

The aircraft are nearly brick-for-brick identical, about 89% similarity. The only differences are concealed.

The armament is comprised of 2 20mm cannon. They are purpose-built interceptors.

Even the pilots are color-coded!

It actually came together rather quickly, took about three days to build the ships and then the hangar.

Quoting DarkKnigt88 U.N.E. Tech Commander Amazing, your such a good story teller, that only helps the viewer become more engaged with your creation. Very good build, they look like something out of battle star galactica the original series.
You know, I thought about that. Even more so with my DLIV-R because it had the sloped front.

Quoting Awesome-o-saurus The Not-So-Great Why punish you for the truth? We commit genocide/xenocide at least once every few centuries, this is no different. No mercy for those who deny the Word of the Emperor.
