MocOlympics Round 4: Wes Pitter vs. Dave Sterling
Maxwell Mulligan and Pugsy the Putter-Pod are Peter Woodley's unforgettable characters, recycled in Round 4 of the MocOlympics.
About this creation
MocOlympics: Round 4
Category: Recycle (make someone else’s MOC)
Opponent: Dave Sterling
My MOC of choice: Max and Pugsy’s Treehouse Hanger by Peter Woodley.

If you’ve seen the original creation, you know Peter wrote a lyrical and memorable poem, which I could never top. So, while you look at my pictures, you can read the story of how I came up with this creation in limerick form.

It’s the MocOlympics: Round 4.
Something I’ve never done before.
Rip off a creation,
Show adoration;
How could something this fun be a chore?

On Wednesday I got my assignment.
By Thursday, facing resignment.
My collection too small,
Expectations so tall,
An opponent not lacking refinement.

Searching MocPages forever.
Perusing the plain and the clever.
Oh, what can I copy
And not make it sloppy?
Should I give this up? No, never!

Kescenovitz’s too complicated.
Besides, my collection's outdated.
Kelso’s too artsy,
Chris makes me fartsy,
And Eggplant’s just overrated.

I’ll look through my favorite stuff.
Here’s one that might be enough.
It’s brimming with whimsy,
But sure looks quite flimsy,
Building this sure will be tough.

Pugsy the cute Putter-Pod.
His sidekick, Maxwell, is odd.
Their tree house is fine,
They have a good time,
I’ll give Peter Woodley a nod.

This MOC gives good first impressions.
I’ll need to learn some quick lessons.
Pugsy’s so cool,
So I’ll go to school,
On anthropomorphic expressions.

But how can I match his fine poem?
Next to Peter, I’ll sound like a gnome!
His verse touched our hearts,
With teddy-bear farts.
So should I just pack up and go home?

Deadline for posting is nearing.
The date which I have been fearing.
I need a gimmick –
Hey! I’ll write a limerick!
I think I can hear you all cheering!

Pugsy and Maxwell have lots of fun,
Together forever, soakin' up sun.
They spend their time wishing
For quality fishing
And now my story's all done!

My only comment: My wife wanted to note that I shouldn’t have used the word “fart” twice in my limerick. She wanted me to change the part about Kelso and Chris. To that end, I want to point out that “fart” is now in my creation three, no, four times. Fart, fart, fart. Seven. Wow, that felt good. I think I just lost 18 years right there.

This MOC is a winner in my book! I have perused through the pictures and enjoyed every detail over and over again! Genius on the storm trooper helmet toilet bowl!

Thanks Wes for being an awesome competitor and really making the judges earn their keep this round. Your MOC was amazing and I find myself going back to look at it over and over. By the way...the use of the Storm Trooper helmet as a toilet is brilliant! Thanks again, I really enjoyed competing with you. :-)

Same here, Dave. Oh, and I'm glad you picked up on that toilet thing. I was half-expecting a younger Lego fan to complain about that!

Quoting Mark Kelso So, what a fun MOC you did do...To it's source you stayed tride and true. While my vote is moot, I still think it's cute, and that's why I'm voting for you.
Thank you to the judges once more, Now let's see if I can keep score: Three votes to two, My time here is through :( Hey! Now I can shop the Lego store! :) Thanks to all the judges - I had a great time participating. Congratulations, Dave!

This was not an easy one to vote on - the hardest this round by far. They are both so different in style, that comparing them to each other is pointless. I gave my vote to Dave for the same reasons that Chris did, but it was not an easy decision. Best of luck with the other judges. Lee.

...ok. WOW! I think brick for brick, Dave has you beat. However, the complexity of your entry certainly weighs heavily. This is a REALLY nice build Wes. I am glad I am not judging this round, both entries are over the top, let's just call this one a 'tie'. ~dave

the dirty peom almost had me but I had to go with Dave on this one. While I agree TOTALLY that your moc was harder to recreate, he really nailed the "replication" of Alex's build and then improved on it. Sorry man, my vote goes to Dave. Good luck with the other judges! It's only 1 to 1 so far! ~ Chris.

Wes, I love the limerick. I think you've earned bonus points for choosing a harder creation to "recycle". Its goofy, creative, and difficult which captures the spirit of the original build.

So true; The original is impossible to top, but this comes awfully close. You choose a challenging MOC to restyle, lots of different techniques in here, and good alternative colour choice too! Total win! You've got my vote!
