G.A.I.A Battle Starship - "ARIS" - 09
Rated 1 out of 5 Change your rating   Zoom in  Zoom in
Originally operating out of Bretonnica, this outdated Battleship has been re-badged a G.A.I.A vessel for the united fight against the alien threat. Also a carrier, this once colossus of pre-war human aggression hosts what is today considered a modest contingent of a flight wing of fighters, several transports and a dozen amphibious battle tanks, in conjunction with it's still respectably heavy armaments. --------------These include 2 sponson quad matrix hyper velocity rail guns, nuclear missile mega-silo, 50 inch turreted battle cannons, turreted gamma-ray cannons, turreted laser cannon, turreted 24 inch guns. The "Aris" is crewed by approx. 2000 people. (108 studs long)
About this creation
HMS ARIS

Ace GAIA pilot Tanya Roberts. Born an American, but dissalowed to join the flight acadamy by her protective parents, Tanya migrated to Britian and joined the Brittanica Space Corps. Ofcourse when the Alien War broke out, she inherently became part of GAIA.

She spends the first year of the war aboard the Aris flying the old Euro-Systems fighter, before transfering to the Daphni - after a harrowing 4 month stint where due to Draggonne misinformation, the crew of the Aris and a handful of merchants ships about it, feared they were the only survivors of humanity left in the galaxy - and climbing into the cockpit of her first Samhain Fire.

Tanya reports to the bridge to confer with Captain Bligh what she just saw on her fly by of Saturn. Apparently he is too busy drinking tea to care that she believed she see the tail end of an Alien Draggonne vessel jumping away.

The Aris though undersized woefully by the end of the first Alien War, stands as a tribute to mankind's preparedness for war. Without the early hulks such as the Aris, humanity could never have produced the great ships of GAIA that invariably saved the human race. The Aris was decommisioned after the first Alien war, and later scrapped as demand for metals exploded with the outbreak of the second Alien War. Some argued the Aris could be out in use, but high command ruled it and its archaic fighters dangerously obsolete, and that trained officers and pilots could not be wasted on experiments in nostalgia.

- Just thought I should mention as it has been raised; as with many G.A.I.A ships, ARIS was designed to land on water when in atmosphere, or on a barren, hard surfaced world. It's sheers weight means that landing on any 'soft' surface such as soil, would see it sink dangerously low, and any imbalanced displacement of weight could see the vessel bend or even catastrophically collapse upon itself.

Tanya's Am-Space parents drop in for a visit with her little sister Amy. Boyfriend Troy joins in what turns out to be a precious photo snap, as Tanya's father dies in action just weeks after this photo is taken.

She may have sworn an oath to the GAIA Emporer, but Tanya is still a proud American at heart, sporting her Celtics top and Americanised bed sheets. Here she is in a happy snap with her fellow pilot bunk mates. Tamiko in uniform is about to go out on patrol, while Tanya and Julia are about to bunk down for a shift. The rooms tend to be cosy and warm, hence the girls wearing so little to bed.

Tanya and her fellow pilot Suzie oversee modifications Tanya has specified...

Birthday party time at the mess hall. One of the pilots has gone overboard and stripped down on a dare, to run through the mess room.

Later in the evening...

Tanya gets jealous and pulls a gun as the guy she has been chasing falls for Susie the Floosy...

Here we see an example of an on board fighter, being test flown by the chief mechanic who has become increasingly unhappy with the old birds capabilities in the face of the sudden alien threat.
"Sure it's a good fighter, 50 years ago. But this can't come close to competing with GAIA's new Samhain fighter. Sure we are still holding up our end against the Draggone, but if we get in to a real scrap, well, I'm just saying I wish we had some of those new birds..."

A small series of 8 8x8 vignette scenes from around the Aris.

Long Live Bretonnica,
Long Live GAIA!!!

I have added a small series of 8 vignette scenes today, hopefully you guys get a chance to take a peek. I was going to release them as their own Moc, but I wasn't sure that 8x8's was such a brilliant idea in the end. But still, I think they make a neat addition here. Cheers all:)

The new cover looks great, Dude! Probably a lot easier landing on water anyway. I remember in the old Robotech series when the SDF1 jumps, and takes that huge hemisphere of water along with it into space. Got a new internet connection?

IMO one of the coolest crossover creations ever created. The mix between a regular battleship and a starship is very effective and magnificient. The amount of details is overwhealming and still you managed to keep the thing together. Great work man, great work!

The pics are very good; if you wondered ;-) In fact, Matsumoto is a japanese manga/cartoon creator, best known for his serie "Captain Herlock" His spaceships are very inspired by battle boats. For some pics of his ships, see http://s1.e-monsite.com/2009/04/18/04/64041979atlantis-jpg.jpg ----- http://www.cine-collector.com/catalog/images/vaisseau-albator-diecast-blue.JPG ----- Unfortunately it's hard to get decent pics of those ships on the web... Anyway keep building on your awesome level mate :D

Quoting Crimso Giger !!! A total pleasure for the eyes ! The number of weapons and details is purely fantastic. AND it's built on a totally awesome shape. Like Mark said, it looks a bit like a boat, but in a good way. Once again it reminds me the work of Leiji Matsumoto... who has designed the best ships ever, IMO. Congrats on a fabulous MOC !!!
Thanks heaps Crimso, yeah I just love those old battle ships too. Was the Yamoto one of the ships your Matsumoto built? If so, then whoah! He rocked. I absolutely love the WW1 HMS Dreadnoughts myself, so revolutionary for their day. Thus in my mind, spaceships that look like ships, just really sits well with me. I'm glad you liked it, I just hope my photography hasn't let this one down, cos it really looks cool on the table... Cheers mate.

Quoting Marc Runde Oh my god! This is awesome, you´ve really got a hand for creating capital ships. The "boat"-style with the grey body and red keel gives it an elegant, but also very powerful and respectable look. And the little hint of classic space - delicious. You´ve cooked a tasty meal for us. Oh, it looks like it could land on water. Doesn´t it?! This would be perfect for an invasion! " Ahhh, they are coming with spaceships!! - From the seaside." Good work, you have my respect!
Thanks Marc, yeah, I really like the idea of a space craft being sea worthy, as I imagine these things would be a disaster to land on any earth surface, they would likely sink meters into the soil! So now you have it, my vision for G.A.I.A capital space warfare, I am so glad it met with your positive judgement, and you'll note I went with your favored color scheme. Cheers Marc, let those aliens flee in fear! Cheers dude...
