Kennemerburg through the ages Part 4: Crosses and Fortifications
About this creation
About 500 years have passed since we left this place, back then it was a bustling Roman town (Urbs Novus). In 277 AD Barbarians plundered the Roman town. All that was left were some dead ruins..

Luckily, a group of travelling Christians stumbled upon te ruins and built their own village. Where the Roman gate stood they built a fortress called "The Kennemer Burght" So this became the town's name... "Kennemerburgh"

Close-up of the "Kennemer Burght"

This is a fisherman's house, with in the background the St. Peter's church.

An overview of the small town...

In the next episode, we travel 600 years further: to 1100 AD, 20 years after Kennemerburgh got city rights.
