About this creation
It's not the size that counts, but how you use it. At least that's what they keep telling me...
Adding another inch or so on 09-25-09! Guess those infomercials were right. Thank GOD they didn't get the SHAM-WoW guy to do those huh? ANYWAY... moving on.
Went out this morning and picked up a box for my minifigs. Then I spent the next 90 minutes sorting them into (left down then right then down…) Chicks (yes, they get their own section. Gotta give the ladies all the little extras to keep them happy), Droids, Legs, Bodies, “Neck stuff” (capes, backpacks and what not), more bodies, Head gear (helmets, hair etc), and then heads. The bottom section is for anything that a minifig can hold. Weapons, food and that kinda stuff. There's also the figs that don't come apart like the ones you get as keychains.

Here’s an overall shot of the (almost) complete collection. You can see the small box of “animals” towards the left side on the desk and there’s a couple of unopened sets (6 or 7 I think) hiding under the desk there.

Here’s what’s under the desk. I picked these up on sale at Target. Right now, the right side is grey "bricks and other" and under that is "slopes and plates." Under that, the bottom drawer is that brown/grey color that no one can agree on what it's called. I'll call it "Brey." The top left is empty today 'cause that's where my figs and animals were before I sorted them. Under that is white "plates, slopes and other" and the bottom one is white brick. On the top is four 48 by 48 base plates. Look close and you can see I got lazy and didn't take all the tiles off one of em.

This is my “to be sorted” area. You can see there’s two shoebox sized small boxes on the side and then… the TUB. And trust me… that thing is FULL! You can see the remains of the Republic Cruiser on top to be disassembled (sniff) and parted out. There’s a few other sets that I still can’t bear to take apart and will “probably” be on display for a while. Let's take a look at those shall we?

Here’s the sets that are still on display. The Star Destroyer, the AT-AT, Vader’s Tie Fighter, Luke’s X-Wing (that’s the first one LEGO put out WAAAAY back in the 90’s), The Communication Universal Networking Transponder (waiting for the BFC at Brickworld 2010), some of the trophies from the Mocie awards that are still waiting to be shipped out (Kelso and Kescenovitz can wait! Hahaha) and my TOT-LUG container (Thanks Dave and Stacy!). On the other side of the room (not in the pic) I have two Jedi fighters and the Falcon (the second version that was released) on display as well.

Fourth Wall Commentary: That's it! Hope the extra inch was as good for you as it was for me! I won't be doing any more "collection" posts unless there are MAJOR changes (like turning the garage into my "Mancave") I've still got a LOT of sorting to do here. In that tub are Cafe Corner, The Fire Brigade, the crusiser, an LAAT, the old hailfire droid (with the huge wheels), a few small V-Wings, a couple of Jedi Starfighters and a whole mess of vulture droids and some other little odds and ends... Pay attention, this is me seriously thinking about paying some local TFOLS to come over and sort this for me. I'm gonna start working on my next episode of "Phip's Clips" next week so hopefully I'll have that up within two weeks or so. Thanks for stopping by! Till next time true believers! ~ Chris.
Update as of November 12, 2009!
I said I wouldn’t add a new page for this until I did something MAJOR for changes. I never said I wouldn’t add to this one…
Well I finally started sorting that huge black “Tub-O-Brick” from BrickWorld. If you remember (or scroll up) this tub was FULL before. Look at it now, you can actually SEE the bottom! WAHOO!

I finally got enough “Profile” bricks to warrant giving them their own area in the collection.

Ohhh, cheese and studs! I hear this is one of Stacy Sterling’s favorite combos. From top left to right… like reading a book. Trans blue studs, trans yellow studs, trans colored cheese slopes, trans clear cheese, other cheese slopes, trans green tiles and finally clear studs.

I always hated digging through my plate drawers to try to find jumper plates hidden at the bottom… problem solved!

Got a few new drawer sets so I upgraded from the shoeboxes to drawers for a few things. First up, blue! Top to bottom, Slopes and “other,” then plates and then brick.

Same with the green here. Slopes and “other,” then plates then brick.

And then old dark grey. Brick on top, “other” in the middle and plates on the bottom. Slopes are in another box off to the side but you can’t see them from here.

I’m not quite done with sorting as you can see. Here’s a number of sealed bags from sets that I’m in the process of parting out to the sorting gods.

Here’s a few of my unopened sets that I had sitting in the room at the time. There’s a few in the garage as well (soon to be the Brickcave!).

“Oh stuck! I’m shi… wait, that’s supposed to be the other way around…”
Just to give you an idea of exactly how big that tub really is.

That’s all for now folks! Thanks for checking in… again.
~Chris.

Seeing some of your collections makes me feel better about my addiction. I use a lot of those same types of containers for my collection. I've only sorted by color at this point, I haven't gone through with the sorting by type yet.
I'm just thankful that my mother had saved all my Legos from when I was a kid so that when I came back to them as an adult I had a huge collection already. |

I'm certainly glad you didn't decide to sit in that tub au natural and simulate having a bath. There's probably something wrong with my thought processes for thinking that but it's certainly not worth fixing at this stage of the game. We're having a virtual tour of our LEGO spaces this weekend at the TwinLUG meeting. I'm cleaning up my room for that. Nice to get things organized. Wish my life was as nicely comparmentalized as my LEGO. see ya. garth |

Ok, heres some emphasis on my collection: Its about a third (give or take a tiny fraction) of that to be sorted tub. Also it isnt sorted. (I have a small collection, yes?) Good job on sorting. It probably makes lego building much easier (when i get my own house, approximately 8-10 years from now, I will probably have saved enough lego bricks as you [im planning on keeping my legos for a while], and then I would have the [clearance?] to be able to organize stuff.) But for now i have about a quarter of a huge tub occupied, and thats it. (p.s... are there 3 versions of the x-wing? I have one that i never finished [I got way too frustrated at the wings falling off [[I was pushing too hard]]...], and I definitely dont have the early 90s version, but i do not have the recent version...) |

How come you have so many lego bricks yet you don't make any large scale stuff?
Time constraints mostly. I only have a couple hours a week for lego and I have the attention span of a ADHD squirrel so long term projects just aren't in the cards right now. But that doesn't mean I won't do so in the future. |
