About this creation

Finally getting a chance to get back to my Type VIIC U-Boat. A few things:

1) Lego really needs to build me a bigger prop or two. I'm not happy but I don't what else I can use. I'm open to help with this one folks.

2) The saddle tanks need to be moved further to the bow and probably add a section to make them a little longer.

3) The forward dive planes work will work with the control room, probably will have a motor that will be able to make them dive or surface..with the controls actually turning with them! Fun for my little lego Kriegsmarines!!

The exterior is almost complete (one side anyway) and I'll start putting my interior pods into place.

Thanks for all the emails and comments. I try to respond to everyone but no I don't have instructions, which is probably why this is taking me a few years. Trial and error is the only way to build.

***UPDATE 9-22-09****

I found my prop! I'm using a brass prop used for model boats until Lego can hook a brother up. It's going to look perfect and I can't wait to throw them on!!

Quoting Brad Linnerooth I really do like the U-boat and I could probably have helped you with the interior a little bit if you would have started six years ago. My Great Grandpa used to tell my siblings and I WWII submarine stories before he died. He told of a story that the convoy he was in found an abandoned U-Boat type VIIC and he was one of the people to board the U-Boat and he took pictures of the interior and wrote details down in the notebook. They later scuttled it because they didn't understand German. When he died I tried to find the notebook full of the pictures but I was unsuccessful. Maybe I will eventually find the notebook.
I would love to see everything if you ever find them. I really need to reload my pictures here as the boat and interior isbcomplete. I used the picture CD for u-995 and anatomy of a u-boat to get it right. Check my flickr for the newest photos: http://www.flickr.com/photos/51492892@N02/

Yeah I agree. The pictures don't do it justice. They have been redone since my last photo update. The stern planes also have been updated with the support arm, which isn't in the photos yet.

to me your saddle tanks look fine. On type VII's they seem to look short on their run to the bow because the conning tower is placed slightly more forward than the center of the boat, creating that effect. just a little criticism here...your diving planes look a little too wide, the diving planes i have seen are long but lengthwise and fit inside of a short guard. That was a big problem I had, trying to build my diving planes at my particular scale was a royal pain in the @ss.

The boat looks great. Saw your post on Uboat.net and in answer to your question, U-boats did not have either blue or red low level lighting. Send me an e-mail for more information through my U-boat Archive website. Cheers, Jerry
