What, are you saying you didn't know Darth Maul had a Pod Racer ?
About this creation
Hi !
Yesterday, I had a sudden impulse to make a lego podracer, not sure why.
Today, I got round to doing it. For me, that's quick as it usually takes me a few weeks, sometimes even months to be bothered to getting round to doing things I'm meaning to do.
Anyway, before all else, since I sometimes make 'joke' MOCs , the name of this might make you think this is a joke aswell... well, it's not.
Also, it's red, not pink. My camera has a bad habit of, under poor lighting, making red look pink; and at the time of taking these photos, poor lighting was all I had. I tried to correct the pictures on the computer afterwards, but adjusting saturation/tint/colour warmth actually just made it look worse... just to say, it *is* red; Darth Maul *hasn't* turned gay (at least, he hasn't yet told me so if he has).
Before building, I decided that due to how many parts I had left, and in what colour, red would be the best colour choice, with black bits. Later on in the build, it was very red and I even thought about calling it something silly like 'Redman's Podracer' (yes, I know, redman is a rapper and has nothing to do with star wars.... why not ? give him a fast podracer, big boombox, racing around fast and furious style.... OK, maybe not.)
When the podracer was complete, and only ten, I looked at it from a slight distance, and though "that looks like the kind of thing Darth Maul would drive", and the more I thought of it, the more the podracer seemed to look darth-maul--ish , what with the red-over-black engines resembling his tattoos and the spiky air intakes making me think of his spiky hairdo (he *must* use some of that 'hoodproof' 24hr hair gel they keep showing in silly adverts...) .
The darth maul resemblance is purely coincidental, and not even done on purpose, like I said, I didn't even think of it until having finished the model; but it quickly helped me decide on a driver and what to call it.
Besides, it's a true story, anyway.... I'm sure there's a deleted commentary scene in the Star Wars Episode I DVD that shows you that the whole tatooine bit was freaky coincidence, being filmed while Darth Maul was on holiday hoping to race his pod, but was late and couldn't enter, having to put up with watching the others. They even made him pay for his ticket despite having entered due to his late arrival, which explains his bad mood during his stay on tatooine. The fact that he coincidentally got filmed in a bad mood whilst they were filming ewan mcgregor and pals acting for the film just makes him look like some crazy serial-jedi-killer... most people don't realize this and actually think he was also acting in the tatooine scenes, playing a crazy jedi-killer...
Sorry, I got carried away there... but hey, it's your useless star wars anorak fact for the day, you can bore someone else with it now :)
Back to the MOC : At first, it was a boring build, the engines being built in a hexagonal cylinder form, the build was one of those boring repetitive 'structural' builds at first; but got more interesting after with the surface detail, which is just randomly placed bits and bobs in the hope of giving an engine look.
Hope you like it :)
Dan

I just added that last pic for the fun of it... it's real... we actually came across a bottle of wine here in france called "Arse". How charming :)
P.S. If you are looking to buy lego for your creations, I would like to recommend the following Bricklink lego shop ; "About Town, Castle & Train" ( http://www.bricklink.com/store.asp?p=stacey_love )
I personally know the shopholders, and they are very nice, devoted people. They are currently sponsoring 100% of my 1/3 Lamborghini project, providing all of the parts; and have made various other donations to other models I have made.
The store has a wide selection of parts (over 600,000!), at good prices, and offer an exceptional, fast service (no tax or dodgy exchange rates, next day postage, etc). you won't be disappointed !

This is quite good. Your engines look especially powerful and the greebling around them looks great too. I might suggest a center piece of laserish nature to tie the engines together like in the movies. Don't know if that piece is available however. At any rate, nice job on this one.
Thank you :)
Yes, it's a shame it didn't have the engine linkage. I assume that if I'd had a suitable part I would have used it on there; though the model has long since been broken up now.
Maybe I'll make a better podracer one day...

♫Just so you know the game episode 1: podracer for Nintendo 64 had Darth maul in a podracer as a secret character only available by cheat code and his podracer looked almost exactly like the one you built...WELL DONE, MY FRIEND, WELL DONE!♪
... Really ? Wow, that's a pretty cool coincidence - I was completely unaware of that; I'll have to try it out some time :)

haha! It's(smirk).....PINK!!!!!hahaha! that's really cool actually. i could never get that many pink pieces
It's red and black, like darth maul - just the camera went all weird and makes the red look pink; could be the poor lighting at the time I took the photos. |

As far as I know, Racer's Revenge is only available on PS2, and the only way I know about it is because my friend has it (I think its a pretty old game)

Excellent, but I have a couple niggles. A: In the game Star wars: Racer's Revenge, you can unlock Darth Maul's podracer, and it looks more like the Sith Infiltrator, and B: those spiky things aren't a hairdo, they're horns. Yours Anorakally Bonald :-P
Lol... I know they're horns , I was just being silly :)
As for Maul actually having a podracer, that's news to me - I've completed the star wars racer game on PC, but have never played Racer Revenge; so I didn't realize Maul had a podracer already.... aaah, I know :) This is his 'sunday pod' lol... |

Pretty nice MOC, but you have to work a bit more on your presentation quality level... Keep it up.
Oh;, I know, my presentation sucks... first of all, I don't have one of those really good but really expensive cameras; and second, I'm not very good at photoshop (or Gimp in my case, as it's free...)
Any help from anybody on how to make *proper* looking photos would be very appreciated :)

yeah, I was going to say that I was sure that Maul had a pod racer but I didn't know that it was pink! Of course now that I "red" the comments (ok, THAT was a bad pun) I know about your camera issue. Great racer Dan! despite your color issues, color me impressed on this. Oh, and that name on the wine made me laugh. I actually have a bottle of wine in my house called Menage a trois. The things that people put on wine to sell it huh?
"menage a trois" ? hahahaha !!! that's crazy...
Glad you like the model anyway :) Not sure why my camera does that; red is the only colour that seems to come out weird, and only in bad lighting... oh well... |
