1968 Chevrolet El Camino SS.
About this creation
Chevrolet didn't limit their muscle car talents to passenger cars
...oh no, they even worked their magic on the car-based pick-up, the almighty El Camino, shoe-horning the big block 454 engine under the hood to produce a lightning fast...yes...TRUCK!

The El Camino was based on the chevelle/malibu, sharing much in the way of the trim, underpinnings, and mechanical hardware. surprisingly the trucks were lighter than the cars!

18 inch rims were installed for extra styling

The long chassis of the truck gave it bad handling and a bit of understeer by nature. so i gave it a 4wd swap.

The rear of the camino was inspired from the early chevelles and the nova.

INTERIOR + ENGINE

all open

doors
the interior i have to me, is absolutely not the best i can do or the best that can be put in the truck :P

Interior

Intrior

The big block versions of the El Camino were no strangers to drag strips, easily doing the quarter mile in 14 seconds without a touch to the engine (@98mph). to make it faster i took the stock engine and made it 4 inches higher so it sticks out the hood. dual air filters were also added to the stock engine. the 14 second time is now minimized to a 10 seconder with only these changes. it will whip out about 500bhp@5,400rpm at this state (350bhp when stock)

Enjoy this ;D
THE CHASSIS
with working 4wd and rotating serpentine belt

the under details

4wd system plus muffler.
EARLY VERSION OF CHASSIS

this was made 4 studs longer for the truck

:)
The El Camino came with many of the same goodies found in the chevelle/malibu counterpart. including a power bulge hood, four speed manual tranny, and was an option for under 400 us bucks!

The El Camino SS surely must be considered the ultimate muscle truck!
it's proud to be a Camino and stands tall!

great work! but did you know that the el camino has exactly the same front as a chevelle? because, if i look to the front of the roof from your creation, i see not a chevelle in this. so maybe the roof is a bit to high or something. but that is a little detail. still nice creation! keep it up! |

'68, surely the tastiest of the Caminoes. Now, I rated it a 5/5, but methinks the cab could be a tad shorter. Still a clever rendition, and with mechanical workings! |
