This is the Shortsword fighter/bomber designed mainly for atmospheric battles, not space battles. It doubles as both a tactical and strategic bomber with pinpoint drops or blanketing bombardment. It is only seen in Halo Wars as if cannon is correct would only be seen on human occupied planets which is why they Spartan 117 never encountered them as he was only on Earth a few hours. They may be in the upcoming game Reach but I doubt it. instructions available monday.
About this creation
Overhead fly-by
Landing with bays open
There are two bomb bays, retractable landing gear, and a hatch near the front to climb up into
on the rear you can see trans-blue/cyan pieces which is where the engines are
These next two are trying to recreate the wallpaper further below. I still am not happy with the cockpit, but its the best I can do.
The original pic i used for building it. Note the one in the rear shows where the landing gear is, its a reverse of the gear on my longsword, 2 ties fold forward, one at the rear under the tail like a prop plane.
Thanks to MOC user Thomas Lockwood for this custom Wallpaper.
PLEASE READ
I recently had a discussion on the size of this vehicle. Yes it is much smaller in scale than my Longsword, but with good reason. A lot of assumptions are that this thing is a big as the Halo 3 Longsword, which I built. However, I re-watched the trailer for Halo Wars as a couple glimpses of it are in there and it appears to be not that big. Two Banshee's are attacking it and it wasn't much wider than 3 or 4 of those. I also have stills of it dropping bombs in multiplayer and it seems to be about as big as a pelican but with bigger wings obviously. It may even seem bigger sometimes but that's cause its higher up and closer to the camera/player. The last proof is the wallpaper shot above which has two in it. The rear one is showing the underside and you can clearly see the landing gear in the rear. If that tire is anything much like standard plane tires, it wouldn't look that big on something like the longsword, unless its a monster truck tire. My only regret is there are no other pics online that are good or show more of this vehicle, nor are there any additional fact as to its true size.
Below are some pics of the shots I have that would indicate size. Do keep in mind that its is a RTS and therefore maybe Im wrong and the sizes are more greatly skewed for game-play and system memory reasons.

given your limited reference material, I give this a 10/5. I think the bottom looks slightly busy color wise, but the design itself is very nicely done. Also recreating the wallpaper was a nice touch.
I was just looking at the shortsword as Im here doing the instructions, and why is it green brown and gold? The Longsword is black, why not do the same? I mean a green and gold/brown bomber, it looks like a flying spartan....
Every time a disruption bomb is dropped, a spartan gets his wings. |

Yeah, the colors are like that for a very good reason. It is supposed to be dark green or green with a coffee color brown, but after doing the longsword i found that the pieces get confusion with the same colors so I broke it up for the builder to identify the various plates in each step. Example, if all black, its hard to see the 'new' pieces in each step. i cannot make better instructions like lego does. |
