Kongamato
A gunboat/reserach vessel combo used as a sig-ship in the Remnant Arm universe.
About this creation
MOC Background:

This MOC has actually been put together since the day before Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was released in stores. However, I just added several more details and weapons recently. The Kongamato is, in cryptozoology, an alleged pteradon still living in the heart of Africa. The reason I called this ship that, is because it flies, and because the name sounds cooler than Nessie. ;) I spent 3 days making the basic ship, and I updted it recntly over the course of 3 hours. This is the first sig-ship I've done since my ugly ol' Crab Blaster, which I posted on FBTB over 2 years ago. I'm fairly proud of it, and I do intend to make some modifications. The ship is seperated into two parts, which was my major goal.

Craft Background:

The top half is a small gunboat armed to the teeth with several weapons. The top half also has the primary Supralux Interstellar Drive, which sends the craft speeding through space at around 250 percent the speed of light when at maximum. (However, using it at maximum is very bad for the craft, and thus limits its usage) The gunboat portion is crewed by three, two gunners, and one pilot/captain.

The bottom half serves as a research vessel and landing craft. The bottom half has two sturdy landing gears which can hold the weight of both halves. It also has two smaller engines which function best in atmosphere, but can also funtion in space under emergency circumstances. It has one long range radio reciver/transmitter, and one all-purpose planetary characteristic reciever (Don't bother me about realism wink.gif ). The research portion is crewed by two, one pilot, and one navigator.

Statistics:
Class: 49-3 Pirahna Gunboat + Alpha-6 Research Vessel
Length: 33 Studs
Height: 20 Studs
Width: 32 Studs (At wingtips)

Armaments:
-2 pairs of Medium Triple Pulse Cannons mounted next to the cockpit.
-4 Guided Missiles (Basically missiles driven by the gunner) mounted forward of the gunner station.
-4 Capital Ship Piercing Missiles, 2 mounted on each engine.
-2 Homing Missiles mounted next to the cockpit.

Remnant Arm MOC Background

Kongamato is the vehicle of choice of a small group of men who were once part of the Outer Colonial Militia. Using the combination gunboat/research vessel, the crew has been taking various small jobs by the Neotregon Rebellion in the outer quadrants. Most of which involve collecting information and boarding government starships. They're msot well-known event was the hijacking of a Zalmoxis cruiser, the ZDS Benjamin Gamus. Kongamato itself is a very real threat. Its Capital Ship Piercing
Missiles are still armed and ready for use. The best time to attempt to defeat this vessel would be attacking the research portoin when it is seperated from the guboat portion. This would take off navigation, allowing a Zalmoxis battleship to attack the gunboat without worrying about it escaping.

A large desktop image. It's essentially the same as the desktop image of my old one, just touched up the planet and changed the ship.

The money shot. A 3/4 overview shot.

The side. Note the greebles on the gunboat. And the lack therof on the research vessel.

   The engines. Fairly win.

This shot shows the top of the craft. Derrr.

It seperates. Didn't I say that a couple times in the description?

This is the hatch to the bottom half from the top half.

   IT OPENS!

Kinda blurry, but that is the hatch from the tp to the bottom. It uses those little sliding pieces from th Imperial Shuttle and other sets.

   Aaaaand open.

My favorite shot of this ship. The gunner station with four Guided Missiles. The guided missile is an idea I stole from the vehicle shooter series, Descent.

The Capital Ship Piercing rounds. They've changed location over the 3 hours I was building details for this thing.

   Side shot of the gunboat.

The cockpit of the gunboat. The chair makes you feel important and special.

The wings are non-regulation and were added to collect solar power, allowing for increased time in space.

Yes, the rear of the gunboat opens. This is primarily for docking with stations.

The cramped interior of the gunboat with one of the crew members looking over the weapon statistics.

   The research portion, front shot.

I like the details I managed to put in the research vessel's cockpit. The overhead monitor allows for talking over the intercom or interplanetary security. (Or pizza-esque gangstas, see Spaceballs).

Wow is it cramped in there :) I would imagine long space voyages are impossible in such tight confines, without any showers...anyways i like the shape, and the fact its splits, and its definatly an improvment over the crab(remember seeing it on FBTB so long ago)
