500-piece modular base built in "Classic Space" fashion, with a small spacecraft and space buggy.
About this creation
A "Classic Space" center with vehicles; built with the very hopeful notion of actual release by LEGO as a "My Own Creation" set. I elected not to use Crater/Landing Plates to further foster its realization using the greatest possible percentage of today's selection of parts (I'm lookin' out for Lego)! Every piece used here is vintage late-'70s, except for a few blue wing pieces in the landing platform (dating to 1984).
The whole base is hinged, allowing for lots of different possible layouts (all seen in my additional pictures). I used around 500 pieces, and sure wish two of them said "LL-908" on them! ;o)

Inspirational attempt at Classic Space LEGO box art? :o) 6974 was never used by any other set, and fits the numbering scheme of the old space sets.

This base has it all! There's a sliding twin-rocket gantry, and a raised landing platform for spaceship with six clear-yellow 6x8 plates!

Central to the model is the double-deckered command center, using both 1x5x5 bricks from a certain two other classic space bases!

The LL-908 Star Cruiser! This little ship proudly joins the LL-918, LL-924, and LL-928. Can you build a cool-looking LL-914?

Here's the gantry again, slid as close to the command center as possible.

The gantry can also be lifted off the sliding rail, for remote location launches.

Detail of the crater. By building the crater out of gray pieces instead of using the old "Crater Plates," Lego could more easily produce the set using today's pieces.

With the hinge at 90 degrees, part of the command base becomes a free-standing radar tower.
|

|
The hinge rotates a full 180 degrees. Here, it's almost all the way around.
|

|
Fully hinged, the landing platform gets positioned behind the command center, offering a whole different "look" for the set.

Another angle of the set, unhinged to the fullest extent.

One final high-angle shot. Thanks for checking out the 6974 Delta-IV! Maybe someday you can have one of your very own! It would be a dream come true for me!

This has a really authentic classic space look. I could almost see it in the Lego catalogues of my childhood. I love it. |

Very cool... Classic Space rules! I have been planning a Classic Space ship for a while now and may soon get around to buying the pieces. And, would you like to join the Classic Space Alliance to promote more Classic Space building? If so, please leave a review. |

its cool how you tried to make it an actual classic set |

|
The concept is excellent, yet you can always add some more detail into it. |

Awesome, really captures the look of "Classic" Space! I have to say its pretty cool, but i think the LC would churn out some crater plates once again... |
