Go get 'em, R2!
One of the most memorable scenes from Revenge of the Sith.
About this creation
Here's my take on a classic scene from Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. It is the part of the movie in which R2-D2 sets those pestering super battle droids ablaze onboard the Invisible Hand. The details in this vignette are abundant yet highly accurate: I had this scene on pause in just the right place, so that I was able to get the floor patterns, wall patterns, and minifigure placement exactly right. Just scroll down to see the details, as well as how it's all built. Please review, and thanks for looking!

Overview...

Front view.

Side view. Please don't look at the side of the wall. It's ugly ;D

Top view, to get a placement of the minifigures.

Low-down angle, as if you were standing there...

The vignette with out the figs.

Details...

Low-down shot of the burning super battle droids.

A proud R2-D2 flies off. The technique I used for his thrusters is fairly common, but I made a couple of slight modifications.

The burning super battle droids.

Th oil spill.

The door. Notice the corrugation behind it and the door frame. This part especially matches up the movie.

Underside of the vignette.

Building Techniques...

Here are the four components of the backside: the wall, the door frame, the corrugation, and the door. Each one sits on a different level, and it was difficult to accommodate for that.

Now here's the hardest part of the build: Due to the height of the different layers, the door frame sinks slightly below the base...

... by an increment of that much...

... so I had to leave small holes in the base so that the door frame would fit.

I find that to be the hardest part, yet the most interesting when it's done. This really was a challenging build, though it may look simple. I was very disappointed that I wasn't able to find one video of this scene online, because I put a lot of work into making the details dead-on exact, and it's a shame no one can compare then with the movie. I'd sincerely appreciate it if anyone was able to find a video of this scene. If you do, please leave a link to it.

Thank you

-Dax

I just love this scene from Episode III and you did a great job on turning it into lego! Great door design with the little idea with hanging it up on the wall with the holes and the SNOT is great! R2's rockets on the side look cool too. Nice work! Oh, and could you check out my Venator? It's under my Republic Hardware folder.

The building techniques are so complicated, and it makes for a really good MOC. It's very movie-accurate. I like R2 flying away with his little jets ^_^
