Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there. Here's a look at a typical day for one dad.

Happy Father's Day, dads. In celebration of all the unsung, uncelebrated, and unnoticed work we do, here's a MOC in our honor. This is also my entry for the SNOT group's "Interiors" contest.
5:16 - I roll in, tired from a long day of work. Time to relax. Ah, here comes my five year old son, three year old daughter, and 10-month old son. They must be here to show how much they appreciate the long day I've already put in.
Okay, that's enough appreciation. No, really. Please get off.
5:20 - Okay, everyone is occupied. Maybe I can sneak in some "Dad time." Hopefully no one will notice I'm here.
5:21 - That didn't last long. I'm not complaining - I like attention. But seriously, who was getting into the garlic Goldfish? Or has little buddy cooked up something special for me? No, son. I am not a landing zone.
5:24 - I keep a tidy house. Look at me! I'm such a good...
My wife calls, interrupting my ego-stroking moment: "Hey honey! Go change the baby's diaper!"
"Okay, sweetie-pie!" I'm so accomodating.
5:26 - Gack! What in blue blazes happened here? I just picked this up! It looks like a train hit a Target truck in here! Where are those little monsters, anyway?
5:29 - Before I can locate the troublemakers, the wife calls, "Could you mash up an avocado for the baby?"
"Sure."
"Make sure the lid on the blender is on tight!"
"Huh?"
"Never mind!" My three year old just helped me figure that one out. I'm laughing inside. Really. Someday, I might treasure this memory. Right now, I just want to sob gently.
5:35 - Frantic screaming draws me away from the avocado disaster. My three year old is screaming and thrashing on the ground. "What's the matter?" I come to find out she stuck a Tic-Tac up her nose. Oh, sweet mercy.
5:44 - Finally, it's dinner time. "Don't tip your chair, dear, or you might...
...spill." Hmm, my food ended up on the floor too. That's the third time this week. Does the three-second rule apply to spaghetti and meatballs?
6:40 - Time for a nice, relaxing bath. It seems the relaxing part only applies to Dad. At least I'm not hugging the toilet like last time.
6:48 - Uh-oh. Looks like the kids got a little messy while I was napping. I wonder how much water da- "Whoa!" Ouch. That's slippery.
"Sorry, dad."
8:08 - Time to put the little hurricanes to bed. My five-year old wants to hear the same story. Again. "Tell it with the voices, Dad!"
8:17 Daughter's turn. She's been fiddling with her clock again, from the looks of it. "Tell it with the voices, Dad!" Before kids, I never knew you could actually fall asleep while telling a story.
12:01 - After a long day of work, and putting the kids to bed, I can finally play with Lego and build this silly MOC! That done, I pass out on the bed without changing or getting under the sheets. The most important thing about today - I survived. Tomorrow, I get to wake up and do it again.

This MOC was built in stages. It began as an idea when the SNOT interior contest was announced. I originally built a kitchen that found a home in my last Weird Al installment. That done, I cooled my heels for a few weeks. When Sterling Knight extended the contest deadline, I decided to go for it. I had to remake the kitchen to true minifig scale. At some point in building the living room, I decided on the humor angle.
If you ever come to visit me, you'll notice that my house is laid out pretty much like this MOC, with a few differences. I did have to make a number of color and style changes, due to aesthetics and my Lego collection.
Most of the events portrayed here are based on real life, although there are some fictional elements as well. It should be noted that the Tic-Tac incident is unabashedly true. Ah, the heady days of nasal orifice experimentation. I might also mention that I have edited my family: the five year old is really my oldest daughter. I didn't have very much pink (none, in fact, when I started), so I went with a pirate-themed room. My daughter was mildly upset about being left out, which was cute.
I want to thank all the dads out there, including mine, who make their children a priority. A special thanks to all the dads who model a life of good choices, including the most important one: to follow Jesus.
I also owe thanks to my wife, who was again a force of inspiration and support. She took me to the Lego store (yeah!) and took the pictures. Thanks! Love you!

Just stumbled across this great MOC! As a Dad, I had to laugh at this, but only because I am all out of tears. My daughter is now 10 and has apparently been practicing her sarcastic wit…..wonder where she learned that from..hmmmmm. Cheers. |

Jack, you probably don't even remember looking at my work, but I thought I'd let you know (as if you care), I do have some little legs now. Wonderful use of SNOT! There are too many things/details to comment on so "Freakin' Sweet" will suffice. This is a GREAT tribute too great, hard working dads out there (including my own). Thanks for the laughs too. :-D |

Nice work on the little time line of a day of a dad. Just amazed at the many details. I really like the way you made the hard wood floor in the kitchen and the dinning room. Great job on SNOT. This house looks quite comfortable for lego figures. Is it alright that I rent a room for a couple of my lego figures to stay? Does five lego $100 sound good for a room? ~ Ghostman :) |
