RZK-9S Razorback
Introduced just prior to the start of the FedCom Civil War and first used by the Lyran Alliance, the Razorback is a scout 'mech that has no major deficiencies but excels at little. Its weapons load out focuses on short-range ballistic weapons, while the ER Large Laser provides some long range punch. The 'mech has proven effective in swarm tactics, and its four machine guns make it particularly effective against infantry. It is somewhat slow for a 'mech of its size, though rarely has trouble keeping up with other contemporary designs.
About this creation
  • Mass: 30 tons

  • Armor: Ferro-Fibrous

  • Engine: Defiance 180 Light Fusion

  • Top Speed: 97.2 Km/h

  • Armament: 1 x ER Large Laser; 1 x Streak-SRM4 (25 rounds); 4 x Machine Gun (100 rounds)

  • Equipment: CASE

I know some of these are bad shots, I'm not a photographer.
I wanted to build this 'mech because the guy over at BrickCommander used the model that appeared in the Mech Commander 2 video game, which looked little like the miniature (see below for links to pics), and I've always liked the Razorback's legs. I kept the left shoulder, though, cause it looked good and matched the miniature. I had to make some compromises there myself, especially with the knees. This was a pretty easy build, but the upper legs were a challenge to get even close; I really hate the knees.

It's kind of pose-able, although I have to take the lower legs off to pose the knee joint. The hips aren't very big, so I had to use 3L w/ stud Technic axles for the joints instead of building a box around ball joints, which leaves the Razorback incapable of standing mid-stride like my Hellbringer (pic of this in my brickshelf gallery).

Ground level shot just for fun. The color scheme here was really an excuse to order a bunch of dark red bricks, cause I didn't have any, but I like it enough that, if I can keep up the ambition, I'm going to built a full scout lance. I'm working on the design for the second 'mech, but I seem to have a fetish for building 'mechs with weird legs, so progress has been slow. Don't look for it till sometime next month.

Finally, a shot next to my Hellbringer for some scale, because any reason to show off my Hellbringer is a good one (still the coolest thing I've ever built). I picked a bad angle, but then my batteries died.

I uploaded the MLCAD file but it is not set up for building instructions. If you download it, please note that I used this piece for the waist joint in the actual build, but that piece doesn't appear to have an LDRAW part, so I fudged it in the MLCAD file just for height.
See my Brickshelf gallery (once it's approved) for bigger pictures.

Top of the fin stands about 9 3/4 inches.
Approximately 375 pieces.

Very cool! I like the MechWarrior games. Excellent work. And about the missile on my U.N.C. hardsuit, the pilots face wouldn't be burned because he has a helmet and a face-mask.

you should try to use the exo-force joints once, I'm not that convinced by yours :P but I like the mech, the colour scheme is great and also the look, and you managed to get it close to the reference pic ;) nice

Nice work, my only problem with it is I think the feet should be a little bigger. But other than that, it's quite nice! I like the use of dark red and bley together.

It looks a bit stiff and from reading it seems that it is, but it still has a nice design with a coherent concept. If you can get those joints sorted out any better it'd be perfect, but even like this it's a good build.
