Calgary LRT - Zoo Station
The is a model of the Calgary LRT Zoo Station. This station is part of the Calgary Light Rail Transit system and serves the Calgary Zoo and surrounding areas.
About this creation
I am continuing my Calgary LRT (Light Rail Transit) Lego model theme. I have previously created models of the LRT trains (see the U2 and the SD160 here) and now I am working on some stations for them.

This is my first completed station. It is the Zoo station which serves (you guessed it) the Calgary Zoo and surrounding areas. This station is located between the east and westbound arteries of a major road heading to/from Calgary City Centre. Tunnels connect the station to the Calgary Zoo on one side of the road and a parking lot on the other.

The first set of pictures show the outside of the station and platform. The building itself was a lot of fun to model. It looked like it was built with giant Lego blocks so translating it into a model was quite easy. The platform was dominated by some large images of animals. I created these with some custom sticker work and matched the shape with black Lego blocks as best as possible.

Here are some details from inside the station. I made the roof removable and included some of the interior details. At one end of the station are the ticket machines and doors to access the platforms. From here a ramp leads down to the tunnels that go to the zoo and parking lots. At the far end of the station is some sort of HVAC thingy. I had to guess what it looked like because I couldn't get a good picture from the available vantage points.

The entire station was a huge 7 baseplates long. I made the building detachable from the platform so the model could be split into sections of 4 and 3 baseplates long to make it a little easier to move Click photo to enlarge.

Of course, the whole purpose of the station is to give my C Trains somewhere to stop. (see photos of my U2 and SD160 trains here). Hera are some photos of the trains at the station.

I love this creation. It's always nice to see something rendered in lego that I see every week. Great job with this, the animals on the top are very well done.

That's awesome. :D I came here from the MotD and saw all your models. This is the closest one to my house and by far the coolest one; too bad you did the less-cool exterior. You should try doing the inside of the Zoo station or just a section of it because it's pretty huge.

Very nice work. I love the little details, like the security camera. This is almost the exact kind of station I want to build.
