Mercedes Citaro Bus - Arriva
My own creation of a Mercedes Citaro Arriva bus, inspired by the new Citaro's in Luton which run on the 321 service.
About this creation
I have built a 2009 Mercedes Citaro single deck bus inspired by the new Mercedes Citaro's in Luton. This runs on the 321 Service which links Luton Airport to Watford via St Albans. I have given this model a revamp in Jan 2010 to aim to get it as realistic to the buses I have based this on. There are now 321 route branding on the sides and I have modified the face of the bus to give it a smoother look from what I had previously designed. I have also changed the bottom skirt to dark blue and made a new white 'swoop' to add realism to the Arriva livery.

Previously in October I made tweaks to the rear end and the air conditioning unit on the roof and the interior seating had been remodelled. The seats are made out of green bricks and there are yellow poles and a light grey tiled floor to give it a realistic look inside. Best of all I made a set of working doors which are hinged into the roof so you can't see the mechanism that makes them fold open.

...and now with the doors open....

The doors have a clip which uses small poles and skeleton arms to open and close. As they are fitted tight and secure to the roof of the inside of the bus, you don't see the mechanism.

Below is where the idea came from, a real Citaro on the 321.

These pictures show the original model before I made any changes.

Here are a couple of pictures from October 09 modifications to the front. This is when I also made the doors.

Quoting Eric and Lawson B Nice rework Bob. You pack an awful lot of detail into an 8 wide body. The doors are truly an engineering feat! Regards, Eric.
Thank you for the comments Eric, and everyone else as well. Glad you like the rework, these projects never seem complete, you always find something that can be done to improve it.

The Citaro has had some work done on it; We have a slightly longer wheelbase, remodelled front end and the rear has been tweaked slightly. The interior has had the seating layout sorted out and there are now grey tiles to complete the floor. Best of all, we have a set of perfect working doors.

Thanks for the comment, I have begun working on doors for the buses. Will update pictures once i've got a design that looks good and works.

This is really good! Those big windows give it the realistic look - awesome job! I guess IŽd make a bus 7-wide rather, like trucks (to keep it in scale to other things), but anyways: very nice representation! Steffen
