The Hyperion, a Titan Class mecha, was first deployed by the Taikeen Empire in the defense of their homeworld.
About this creation
Some backstory
I'm sure most people won't care at all about this, but it's been running through my head for months, so here it is.
The Taikeen Empire is known throughout space as a highly advanced robotics oriented culture. Their knowledge of civilian and combat mecha being highly prized in almost every corner of the galaxy; the Blue Devil automated mecha is their most popular mass-production unit. No one outside of the Taikeen Empire knew that the mecha produced for sale were but a shadow of what the Taikeen kept to themselves.
Over time, their knowledge of robotics became coveted and an invasion was initiated against the Taikeen homeworld. As expected, the invaders came upon a large force of Blue Devils and other defenses, but were successful in advancing the line of battle towards the Taikeen cities.
Once the invaders reached the cities, the first Taikeen casualty was inflicted. The Taikeen struck back with a terrible force. Massive forms emerged from rivers, walked from the exploding sides of buildings, even rose from below the streets.
The Taikeen deployed their first Titan class mecha in the year 2734. The Hyperion had entered the field of battle.
These new mecha unleashed a torrent of firepower upon the attackers in a blinding wave of artillery and machine gun fire, rockets, and missiles. After the initial barrage, the true terror of the Hyperion became evident. The machines were fast and incredibly responsive to their operators; in addition to sporting the armor that most Titan class mecha are known for. The unique design and massive legs allowed the Hyperion to leap about the battlefield with the nimbleness seen only in powered armor.
The Titan's quickly closed with their attackers and used their powerful arms and massive hands to crack the armor that didn't fall to their other ordnance. It quickly became evident that hand to hand combat was the primary weapon of the Hyperion.
The Hyperion is not invulnerable by any means, and the invading forces quickly learned to target the support struts to limit the maneuverability of the Titans. Even so, the commanders of the invasion force were not prepared to deal with an army of combatants ensconced in 113 tons of armored, leaping, tearing weaponry.
Soon after, the invasion broke upon the wrath of the Taikeen Empire and the foreign forces were expelled from the planet.
What you really want to see:
This thing took me over 3 months to complete, and it's by far the largest thing I've ever built. It's also the coolest thing I've ever built.
As the story above states, the hands are meant to be the primary weapon of the Hyperion, and they are where my vision of this whole thing started.
The Basic Hyperion Production Model
You can see that it only has minimal weaponry. The basic load out consists of two chain guns between the upper and lower torso and a pair of duel barreled anti-infantry shotguns mounted under the hips.

The Back View

Full Load Out
In addition to the basic weaponry, the Hyperion can carry rocket pods on the thighs, an artillery piece on its right shoulder, radar jamming gear on its left shoulder that has attached surface to air missiles and a pair of concealed rockets.
This picture also shows the jump-infantry that are often deployed with the Hyperion. The jetpacks of the soldiers allow them to keep up with their much larger companion.

Ordnance Shot
This is all the ordnance carried by the Hyperion out for display.

Pilot
He's sporting the standard Taikeen machine pistol. Also of note, is his hair. This is shaved off before entering combat so as to enhance the mental interface with the Hyperion (see the shot in the collection below to see him in the cockpit).

Play Features
I wasn't going to go through all the trouble of creating this thing without some neat play features. I didn't get all of them in that I wanted, but I got most.
1) It has a lot of extra weapons!
2) The radar jamming pod opens up and has two hidden rockets
3) You can open the breach on the artillery cannon to see a loaded shell
4) The cover behind the cockpit can be removed to allow access to some of the engine components
5) The hatch next to the cockpit opens to reveal the removable battery pack. It also shows that the Hyperion is apparently powered by Pink! Who knew?
6) The cockpit has a dual hatch system to allow access to the pilot and his controls

The End
Whew... This ended up being so much cooler than I had envisioned in my head, and I'm kind of sad to be done with it. Three months on the same thing is a hell of a long time (for me at least).
Each portion has been reworked no less than three times.
As much as I enjoyed working on it, I'm ready to be done with it and to move on.
This is now the the pride and joy of my shelf. Even my wife thinks it's cool.
Please comment and let me know what'cha think.

I'm proud of your creations. Yep, I can believe that you put in three months of sweat and blood and maybe even tears. As I can see on the photos it looks even so natural that I'd say that it comes from the nature. |

I can't believe I haven't commented on this yet. Overall this is just great, the multi-joint arms are pretty unique and rarely seen, and the shape of the legs and torso work really well together. I like that you gave it optional weapons and all the little details like the opening cockpit and other hatches shows that you really put thought into this. I look forward to more from you! |

Truly awesome. I'm usually not a fan of white color schemes but this pulls it off great. Love the weapon loadout, the hands, and the joint style on the legs. This is the level that I aspire to reach.
Thanks Batanen! I look forward to seeing some of your models online. |

Well, I'm moving and all my Lego is packed. So the first thing is to get a Lego room set up in the next house. After that, I'm going to do a set of smaller builds that aren't mecha. I've been thinking of mech's for so long that I need a short break. |

well i can't exactly copy that mech, but i did however figure out how make that kick but gun that goes to the pilot.mind if i use it?
Okay, blanket statement! Anyone is free to copy anything off of any build I make at any time. If you happen to remember that you got a specific technique from me, then feel free to credit me; but if you don't, that's alright too. I share so that others can see what I've done and perhaps learn something. Hell, I know I learned off of others. I don't believe using techniques is the same as plagiarism. If you tried to pass off my images as your own, that's a very different story of course. |

Thank you for this! For the last 3 weeks there's been nothing but 3 inch tall mecha's that took 10 min to build dominating the discussions. Finally something huge and well thought out to break the trend. |

I've been following this thing's production of Flickr for quite awhile now. And yet, I'm still blown away by the final product. This is really an incredible mech. A bit reminiscent of some of Kwi-Chang's stuff (not a bad thing ;) but that aside, it's still incredible. The wheeled feet are neat and the top gun is a great touch, but this mech's stature is what really steals the spotlight. The head-below-the-shoulders hunched over look makes it look incredibly powerful. That paired with it's terrific arms make it look like it could take down a sky-scraper by simply sticking it's arms out and walking (or stalking as the case may be with those legs) forward. As I (and many others) have already said. Terrific mech. Keep on building ~ Nowhereman |

This is great work. The overall shape is so sleek, yet at the same time bulky and intimidating-- in a good way. The multiple weapons complement the design nicely too. I'm also a big fan of the color scheme, by pure coincidence I used the same scheme on a WIP starfighter I'm building. Anyways though, I like the cockpit and 'head' (or lack thereof) on this mecha, and the knees are very well built. Nice job! |

No, I'm saying my source is VERY limited. Almost my entire collection of bricks is useless! Only about 1/4 of my small collection is useful. The rest is made up of huge castle parts. I could not afford to build at this scale. |

I WISH I had all the parts I want... I did make several Bricklink order to restock some of the basics partway through. This thing quickly used up my small plates (white and dark bley). It's not like I have some limitless source of pieces. |
|
|
Wow! It must be awesome being an adult! Getting all the parts you want. Personally I can't afford that many pieces, but people think I have a lot. Still this is an awesome build! PS: The Salvation (edited Revelation) is now much better. Let's see if you change your mind about the Godspeed being my best. The Salvation is now more original. (Especially the head.) http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/119587 Enough with my shameless self-promotion. Bye! |

So this was your big project! DANG!!! How big is it?! Either way, it's EPIC!
In the third picture you can see how small the minifigs are. As posed in the pictures here, it stands about 46 studs tall. The legs can be extended more to make it taller, but I like the way it looks when crouching. |
