Solar Guardian (Star Wars EU Ship)
Star Wars EU Sheild Ship
About this creation
Starship based on a Star Wars Extended Universe vehicle. The Sheild Ship is used to protect ships when passing close to a sun from the extreme heat. *This ship was featured in Timothy Zahn's Thrawn Trilogy.*

As pointed out in one of the reviews I did utilize the Millennium Falcon model to make this, and used almost exclusivley pieces from that set. So, think of it as an alternate model.

The Sheild Ship is crewed by three men, a mechanic and two pilots.

Damn, I wish that kitchen counter looked more like the burning corona of a red giant star.

This is the sheilding portion of the ship, and you can see the mechanic stading at the bottom for scale.

The mechanic is working on the coolant lines that keep the sheild's hull from melting down like an episode of Jerry Springer.

The support strut between the sheild and the command cabin can double as a fighting platform to solve petty disputes between crewmen.

The roof of the cabin is covered in random grates, wheels, latches, and lord knows what else. I don't know what purpose any of them serve.

The side hatch to the cabin is small, but easily accessed from the top with numerous redundant levers. Redundancy is our mantra.

A blurry shot of the command cabin showing the bed, some tools, and the control center.

Nothing like a good cup of caf while serving the people.

Engine detail...and no, the mechanic never comes inside...ever.

Forward view of the command cabin.

No matter what William Shatner tells you, travelocity's bargain seats on the Solar Guardian are never worth it. But if you must bring a lot of sunscreen.

Another shot of the American Gladiator-style support strut.

   More greebage...is that a word?

Some more scaling for you folks as the Stymphalian pulls under the protective "umbrella" of shadow.

And the final shot, showing the same view, but from the front.

I am really really digging this right now. I read the first book Heir to the Empire by Timothy Zahn and recall the scene when Han and Luke's respective ships were shielded by this behemoth. Very nice.

Looks really good, but I agree, it should be a lot larger, in the book, the Millennium Falcon and Luke's X-wing, should fit inside if I recall the book right. But otherwise, it looks great!!!!!

It would have to be at least large enough to shield the official UCS Mellinium Falcon that is coming out this year, sence that one is actually built to proper scale for minifgs. In any case not a bad attempt. I have always liked the flying umbrella design they used for the shield ships.

I like it, but it just doesn't really suit my tastes very well. There's nothing wow about it. But very nice job! I liked the one about the Travelocity in your captions. LOL!

I have read about these shield ships but not seen one visualised in 3D. I think your spot on, especially the tea room, it must be hot work. In response to the review below, I was thinking how a shield ship would work and how big it would need to be. well I don't think it would need to be that big because the shadow behind the shield would be bigger than it and the shadow should get bigger the closer the shield gets to the source. Just a thought, great MOC.

That is by far one of the coolest ideas for a ship ever. Also the little blue and white one docking at it was great. Very nice! 5/5
