It should perhaps be noted that the characters of this story are a touch more genre-aware than most - many tend to lampshade their predicaments being like that of a giant robot anime of some sort. While it leads to the subversion of some events and problems one might expect, this attitude can also create more. Take, for instance, a conversation which occurred on the Arbalest roughly three days before its descent to Earth, between one of the bridge bunnies and the mechanic Yui Laryandor, the erstwhile girlfriend of Kerykeion Mark III pilot Alexander Kanbara.
"Say, Yui...Alex is the typical shounen hero, right? And you're his girlfriend, so...doesn't that make you the chick?"
A pause. "...The chick?" Did I forget to mention Yui's temper?
"Erm...forget I said anything. Bye!"
The next morning, a new AT was in the Arbalest's hangar, one of the most advanced ATs of its generation at that. Mounted with a Baryonic Drive like the Kerykeion Mark III's (how Yui managed to build one, on her own, out of scrap on the Arbalest remains unanswered, as she has not repeated the feat), the unit was christened Pheora, and it would serve as Yui's personal unit for the duration of the war.
At 19 meters tall, Pheora is a larger AT than the Kerykeion Mark III, but still stands shorter than the Ladja. Its frame is thicker and stronger as well, to properly handle its Baryonic Drive's output. Despite its larger size, Pheora's mobility is actually greater than the Mark III's, as its thrusters incorporate properties of the drive's byproduct to reduce its local mass, increasing its agility and reducing the amount of thrust it requires. As a result of this mass reduction, it is also one of the only ATs of its generation capable of full atmospheric flight.
For melee, Pheora sports a pair of beam talons over each wrist - these short sabers are much more focused than the normal type, allowing them to cleave more easily through armor. For ranged combat, in addition to the standard quad beam submachine guns, its primary arms are the twin hyper beam cannons on its wings, which flip over the shoulders when in use.
Further distinguishing it from other ATs of its generation, Pheora is one of the first to include a transformation feature, giving it the ability to shift into a bird-like Cruise Mode for high-speed transit. This mode makes use of the weapons difficult, but drastically increases the already fast AT's movement capabilities.
Were this array of weaponry not enough, Pheora also sports one last trump card in the form of its four Feather Fangs. Remote-guided weapons, the Fangs are mounted on the wings when not in use - once deployed, they function as additional beam rifles or as flying beam sabers. Though remote weapons had been previously used on the Streik Falken, they had not been made at such a small size before, a feat made possible by a combination of engineering genius and the power output of the Baryonic Drive.
Only one Pheora unit was ever produced, as its operation was too complicated for the majority of pilots. It continued to be a top-of-the-line AT for several years following the war, and its technology was used in the creation of many units of the following generations.
