I have succumbed to the temptation of building a hover battle bike/speeder, as most commonly seen in various Clone Wars cartoons and other material. And, I have the same problem as so many others who have succumbed, It comes out rather large.
About this creation
Here we see the laser gun on our left side, and the heavier pulse-cannon-what-have-you on our right. This is definitely a heavy speeder battle bike. And it has an open cockpit, much like everything else from the Clone Wars, to ensure that the pilot can be easily killed and help to guarantee a high mortality rate amongst the Grand Army of the Republic.
With this engine shot, and the top picture of the side shot, you may notice something amiss on all other hover battle bikes --> maneuvering jets. Yes, we got the long laser cannon, the large heavy shot cannon, the cool sleek design and heavy nose, but this baby can spin on a dime with those maneuvering jets. As all hover vehicles do not have breaks, you need something for tight maneuvering. George Lucas thinks that steering vanes work. He obviously has never been on a floating anything! Steering vanes only work on water, but have pathetic response on airborne vehicles. That is why fighter jets have adjustable exhaust nozzles on their afterburners to steer the thrust for tighter maneuvers. Same concept here.
I have never heard of a 'Battle bike' but this is very cool. I like the weapons. Thanks for the comment on my speeder bike. The trick is this piece http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=4732. Again great job.=]
